Utah Valley University’s (UVU) student sales team secured an impressive second-place finish at the Pacific Northwest Sales Competition (PNWSC) held at Oregon State University on February 7-8. The competition provides students with a dynamic, real-world setting to showcase their professional selling skills and expertise.
Forty students from 10 universities competed in an immersive business-to-business (B2B) sales role-play, acting as sales representatives from Papé Machinery, this year’s PNWSC sponsor. Their challenge: sell a John Deere 8R 370 tractor to a fictional grass seed harvesting operation. Only 16 advanced beyond the first round, with UVU among five universities to send multiple competitors forward—including Madison ‘MJ’ Agren and Savanna Hendrickson.
Four students advanced to the final round, with Savanna Hendrickson wielding her exceptional sales skills against competitors from Oregon State and Boise State to secure 2nd place.
"Competing against top talent was an amazing experience that pushed me to think strategically, adapt quickly, and refine my skills under pressure,” said Hendrickson, “I loved the challenge and the opportunity to learn from both my peers and industry professionals. Achieving 2nd place was a shock, but the perfect way to cap off an unforgettable competition!"
UVU’s sales team attributes its success to months of rigorous training, including practice competitions and coaching from industry leaders at Adobe and BambooHR. This preparation sharpened their skills in discovery, object handling, and negotiation.
With their recent success, the team isn’t slowing down. Eight students are now preparing for two major competitions in March: the National Collegiate Sales Competition in Georgia and the Western States Sales Competition at Boise State.
UVU’s Professional Sales program provides students with real-world experience and the expertise to thrive in the sales industry—equipping them with the skills to excel in their careers and entrepreneurial pursuits.
