Frame VC co-founder and partner Rob Hennefer shares key insights on succeeding in venture capital, thriving in uncertainty, and why curiosity is the most powerful force in building a meaningful and successful career during the Reed and Christine Halladay Executive Lecture Series.

Rob Hennefer shared a candid perspective on navigating career uncertainty, following curiosity, and building a path in venture capital and entrepreneurship.
Hennefer began by reflecting on his background, growing up in a blue-collar family where he was the first to pursue higher education. From an early age, he demonstrated creativity and initiative, teaching himself tools like Adobe Photoshop in high school and using those skills to create custom digital work for others. This early experience led him to realize that the world is often more flexible and open to change than it initially appears.
After exploring various jobs, Hennefer gained exposure to the software industry, which sparked his interest in the broader business landscape. He later enrolled at Brigham Young University, where he studied accounting and built a foundational understanding of business. However, he eventually recognized that the "sensible path" was not the right fit for him, learning that even well-structured plans can lead away from personal fulfillment.

Hennefer shared that his primary driver has always been curiosity. After leaving the accounting field, he returned to Salt Lake City and joined Ensign Peak Advisors, where he gained experience in venture capital and private equity. He later continued developing his skills at Podium before co-founding Frame VC with a former mentor, allowing him to pursue investment opportunities aligned with his own research and interests.
A central theme of Hennefer's message was the importance of adapting to change. He emphasized that in today's rapidly evolving business environment, entrepreneurship is more important than ever. He introduced the concept of being "pro-entropic," encouraging students to build careers and businesses designed to adapt and thrive in uncertain and chaotic conditions.
Throughout the lecture, Hennefer reinforced that career paths are rarely straightforward and that progress often comes from questioning assumptions, following curiosity, and being willing to change direction when necessary.

The Woodbury School of Business thanks Rob Hennefer for sharing his experience and perspective with UVU students. His message reinforced the value of curiosity, adaptability, and building a career that aligns with both personal interests and an ever-changing business landscape.
