Thinking about pursuing a business degree in Utah? Learn more about the occupational outlook and salary data for graduates from a variety of programs offered by the Woodbury School of Business, including accounting, finance, marketing, supply chain management, hospitality, and more.

As headlines and influential thought leaders debate the value of a traditional college education, prospective students are right to pause and ask hard questions as they consider their futures. Plenty of students, especially those returning to school after years in the workforce, want a straight answer before investing time and money in a degree: Is this actually going to pay off?

If you're considering a business degree in Utah, the answer is yes. And if you're considering the Woodbury School of Business (WSB) at Utah Valley University specifically, the return on that investment looks even stronger than it might elsewhere. Here's why — and here's what the data actually says.

Why a Business Degree Still Leads in Utah

Before delving into the salary data, it's worth addressing the bigger question. With trade certifications, coding bootcamps, and online courses all competing for attention, is a four-year business degree still the right move?

David Przybyla, executive-in-residence at the Woodbury School of Business and founder of the Green House Sales and Marketing Agency at UVU, offered a direct insight: "Of all the relevant degrees in terms of outcomes, I would say the business degree is still probably the most relevant of all."

Przybyla spent 20 years in marketing and management roles before joining the Woodbury School of Business as a practitioner-professor, one of a relatively rare category of faculty members who maintain active consulting work to keep their teaching current with the real corporate world. With a unique perspective generated from fielding hiring calls from CEOs and watching what separates candidates who get the offer from those who don't, Przybyla offers students an honest, insightful look into what employers are seeking from new hires and, surprisingly, it isn’t only technical skills.  "I can teach [students] hard skills in six months. We’ve got training programs for that. But what I can't teach them is how to talk to clients, how to interact with their colleagues, how to grow and be motivated,” Przybyla explained. A business degree develops what Przybyla calls “human skills,” or rather the emotional intelligence, professional resilience, and critical thinking that modern employers say they can't find enough of in new hires.

That alignment between what the WSB teaches and what Utah's business community needs is a key part of what makes the degree continually relevant and why the salary outcomes for graduates are worth paying attention to.

Salary Snapshot: What Graduates of the Woodbury School of Business Earn in Utah

Here's a look at what graduates from the Woodbury School of Business entering common career paths can expect to earn across the state of Utah, based on current labor market data.

Accounting

Accounting is one of the WSB's most prolific programs and is endorsed by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), meaning the curriculum is specifically designed to prepare students for the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) exam. Graduates can also pursue the CPA pathway.

In Utah, accountants earn an average salary of roughly $93,520, according to data gathered from the Bureau of Labor Statistics as of late 2025. Typical salaries for mid-career accountants fall between roughly $71,000 and $120,000 annually, with top earners exceeding $150,000. Utah's tech sector is a particularly strong employer for accounting talent, and companies like Workday, Adobe, and Qualtrics are among the state's top-paying employers in this field.

Business and Analysis

For students who want broader foundational training before specializing or who plan to move into management or entrepreneurship, the Business and Analysis program provides a strong launchpad. Przybyla is candid about the challenge: generalist graduates will face more competition in an entry-level job market that tends to hire for specific skills. His advice is to pair a broader degree with a certificate emphasis or a practical experience like the Green House to add a sharper professional edge.

Roles related to business data and analytics in Utah have a wide salary range, with business analyst positions averaging around $69,000 to $80,000 and operations or general management roles growing significantly with experience.

Event Management

Event Management is one of the Woodbury School of Business’ newer degree programs, and it fills a veritable industry gap. The events industry generates billions in economic activity annually and encompasses everything from corporate conferences and conventions to nonprofit galas, festivals, film festivals, and government events; it’s an industry with an expansive hunger for trained professionals with both business acumen and operational know-how.

Salary data for event management varies by role and specialization. Entry-level event planners in the Salt Lake City area earn an average total pay of $65,759, with a typical range of $51,686 to $84,631 annually, per Glassdoor. At the managerial level, the average salary in Utah reaches $107,134, with a typical range of $95,107 to $119,896, according to Salary.com. Finance and Financial Planning

The Woodbury School of Business offers undergraduate degrees in Finance and Financial Planning and Wealth Management, as well as a Master of Science in Finance at the graduate level. Finance careers are a strong fit for Utah's growing financial services industry and the expanding tech sector, where financial analysts are in consistent demand.

Entry-level financial analysts in Utah start at around $64,500, with mid-career salaries averaging $80,000 to $100,000 and finance managers earning an average of $124,827, according to Salary.com. Hospitality Management

Utah's hospitality and tourism industry is a significant and growing economic engine. With five national parks, a booming ski and outdoor recreation economy, world-class resorts in Park City and Deer Valley, and a growing convention and events sector anchored by the Utah Valley Convention Center and various event venues in downtown SLC, the state needs hospitality management talent and it needs that talent locally trained.

Salary ranges in hospitality management vary depending on property type and role. Hotel managers in Utah earn an average salary of $65,150 per year, per Indeed, with Park City-area positions paying notably more due to the luxury market. Salary.com reports the average hotel manager salary in Utah at $91,602, reflecting mid-to-senior level compensation. For revenue management roles, which are related to one of the program's specific specializations, hotel revenue management professionals in Utah average $87,880 annually, with top earners reaching $128,817, per ZipRecruiter. General managers at full-service and luxury properties often exceed an annual salary of $100,000.

Human Resource Management

Every organization hires people, manages people, and delegates people to advance objectives and uphold team morale. Human Resource Management (HRM) professionals make those systems work and in Utah's flourishing business environment, HR talent is in consistent demand across all industries ranging from tech and healthcare to manufacturing and finance.

For students thinking about long-term career growth, HRM is also a field with a clear ladder. Entry-level HR specialist roles provide the foundation, and management positions carry strong compensation with HR specialists in Utah averaging $67,292 per year, per ZipRecruiter. At the management level, HR managers in Utah earn an annual mean wage of $124,890, according to data sourced from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, with the national mean at $160,480 as of May 2024.

International Business

Utah is a more globally connected economy than many people realize. The state's tech corridor has strong international partnerships, and Utah companies in manufacturing, life sciences, defense, and agriculture all operate in global markets. The Bachelor of Science in International Business at The WSB is built for students who want to work at that intersection.

Career paths for International Business graduates span a wide salary range depending on specialization. International business managers in Utah earn an average salary of $117,634, per Salary.com. For graduates who move into global supply chain roles, which is also one of the program's featured career paths, the average supply chain manager salary in Utah is $119,422, with a typical range of $105,423 to $134,433, per Salary.com. Entry-level roles in international trade coordination and logistics start lower, generally in the $50,000 to $70,000 range, before building toward management compensation as experience accumulates.

Marketing and Digital Marketing

Marketing is one of the institution’s most active and evolving programs, and it's where much of the school's innovation has been concentrated in recent years. The WSB offers a Bachelor of Science in Marketing with specializations including digital marketing and professional sales. Each area is part of a curriculum that Przybyla himself helped develop specifically to align with what Utah's employers are actively hiring for.

"We try to align with what's needed in the industry," Przybyla says. "Let's design a pathway for students to kind of train for that."

Marketing and digital marketing salaries in Utah range widely depending on specialization and experience level. Entry-level digital marketing roles in Utah start around $42,000 to $62,000. Marketing managers in Utah earn an annual mean wage of $134,650, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, with the national mean reaching $171,520 as of May 2024.

Professional Sales

If there is one program at the Woodbury School of Business that cuts directly to the question of employability, it may be Professional Sales. The program itself carries a 100% post-graduation career placement rate. More broadly, the professional sales industry is one of the most reliably accessible entry points into a business career, regardless of what you studied in college. Przybyla echoes this directly from his experience advising students where he observed that nearly 90% of recent college graduates, regardless of their major, will take on a sales role of some kind early in their career. "It doesn't matter your degree," he notes. "A lot of students are going to have to get their feet wet in the business field in sales."

In Utah, the average base salary for a sales representative is $84,520 per year, with an additional $10,900 in average annual commission, according to Indeed. Beyond entry-level roles, sales managers in Utah earn a median salary of $144,390 according to data sourced from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the professional sales field generates more than half a million job openings nationally every year.

Operations and Supply Chain Management

The WSB’s supply chain management program is well-positioned for Utah's logistics and manufacturing sectors, as well as the state's growing tech hardware and defense industries. Supply chain management is consistently one of the higher-paying business disciplines.

Supply chain managers in Utah earn an average of around $119,400 to $123,500 annually, with the typical salary range falling between $105,000 and $150,000 depending on experience and employer, per Salary.com data.

MBA and Graduate Programs

For professionals already working who want to advance into senior roles, The Woodbury School of Business offers a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with emphases in finance, marketing, management, and technology management, as well as a Master of Accountancy (MAcc) and Master of Science in Finance (MSF).

MBA salaries in Utah average around $95,000, with program-specific outcomes varying by emphasis and prior experience. Finance-focused graduate degrees and accounting credentials like the CPA and CMA can significantly accelerate salary growth. For example, accountants with advanced credentials and several years of experience commonly reach $150,000 or more in Utah's larger markets.
