This year, Utah Valley University is celebrating commencement by spotlighting the remarkable achievements of our graduating students.
Amanda Kanno-Davis already knew she wanted to be a published author. But graduating with a bachelor’s degree in creative writing from UVU opened more doors than she even knew about.
“My faculty mentors have played a huge role in helping me reach my career goals,” Kanno-Davis said. “The curriculum and the quality of education also gave me the skills and the knowledge to help me gain the professional know-how to succeed as a writer in the publishing industry.”
Kanno-Davis said her time spent reading and analyzing literature from marginalized communities has been her greatest enjoyment. “Reading about cultures and perspectives beyond my own understanding has truly made me into a better human,” she said.
With her degree in hand, Kanno-Davis has signed with a literary agent and is ready to publish her first novel. She hopes to see her novel in bookstores all over the country.
