Utah Valley University is celebrating commencement by highlighting the journeys and achievements of its graduating students.
As long as Cyrus Nielsen has the chance to conduct scientific research and work with insects, he said, he’ll be happy. Fortunately, his education at UVU provided exactly that.
Nielsen is receiving a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in zoology from UVU after an educational career filled with outdoor experiences like backpacking and kayaking, internship opportunities at Capitol Reef National Park and the University of Florida, and yes — lots and lots of bugs.
“Without attending UVU, I never would have developed such a deep passion for biology, and I certainly would not have gained aspirations to study it for the rest of my life,” he said.
After graduation, Nielsen said he plans to pursue a graduate degree in entomology in Germany, followed by a career in academia or a museum.
“UVU showed me that I belong in academia, and that I want to pursue a lifelong career in science,” he said.
