In celebration of commencement, Utah Valley University is recognizing the hard work and success of students completing their degrees.
After Darci Gardner’s third child entered school full time, she finally had the ability to pursue her longtime interest in education.
“I’m really passionate about helping students think critically about history, learn how to analyze different perspectives, and see how the past connects to the world they live in today,” she said.
Gardner said she chose UVU because of its strong education program and its friendly flexibility for nontraditional students. And during her time at UVU, she had “life-changing” educational experiences, including a field week at Whitehorse High School in the Navajo Nation.
“It impacted me immensely and was such a life-changing experience,” Gardner said of her time at Whitehorse. “I’m most proud of the growth I’ve seen in myself as a student and future teacher, and the fact that I’ve been able to pursue my goals while supporting my family.”
In the coming years, Gardner said she is looking forward to sharing her passion for history and social studies with her future students.
“I hope to become a strong, experienced teacher who creates an engaging classroom where students feel comfortable discussing ideas and asking questions,” she said.
