In honor of commencement, Utah Valley University is showcasing the inspiring journeys and accomplishments of its graduating class.

During his time at UVU, Tyler McCabe had the opportunity to play more than 15 different characters in theatre and film. His most important roles, however, didn’t come on the stage or screen.

During his time at UVU — which will end with McCabe as valedictorian for the School of the Arts Class of 2026 — he served as president of the Theatre Arts Guild, a UVUSA member, a Title 1 elementary school teacher, and an administrative assistant, in addition to his many dramatic roles.

“My training at UVU pushed me to seek beyond what was immediately on the page,” McCabe said, “and because of that, I feel I have the skills to give back and make a name for myself in this industry.”

McCabe said he chose UVU because a lifelong mentor, UVU theatre alum Marta Myers, recommended it to him. “I knew UVU's faculty were experts in their fields, the productions were beautiful, and that I would be lucky to attend this institution,” he said.

After graduation, McCabe said he plans to pursue a career in acting and teaching, devoting himself to storytelling, civic engagement, and service.
