Jumpstart Orientation

Jumpstart will introduce first-time college students to the tools and resources needed to successfully navigate UVU's campus environment.

Instructions for Virtual Jumpstart

In order to receive credit for participating in a virtual Jumpstart, you must follow the instructions below. Students who are not properly prepared to participate will be asked to leave the session and will not have their Jumpstart hold removed.

  1. UVU must abide by FERPA regulations that protect the privacy of each student's educational record. This means we must visually verify the identity of each student participant. In order to recieve credit for completing your virtual Jumpstart, your webcam must be on and your face must be visible for the entire session. (Students not visible on camera for the entire event will not receive credit for participating and your Jumpstart registration hold will not be removed).
  2. For the best experience, please participate in virtual Jumpstart from a desktop or laptop computer. If you do not have access to a desktop or laptop computer with high-speed internet access we HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you contact us and register for a face-to-face Jumpstart Orientation.
  3. Your virtual Jumpstart Orientation will take place via Microsoft Teams. Every UVU student has been given a free license to Teams.
    • At least 1 hour before your Jumpstart begins, download Microsoft Teams and click "Sign In."
    • Use your UVID@uvu.edu to sign in. You will be redirected to UVU's sign-in portal.
    • Enter your UVID & password, and click sign in once again.
    • Once signed in, follow the prompts and you will be automatically signed in to the Microsoft Teams app.
    • If you are unable to access your Microsoft Teams account after following these instructions, please call the UVU Service Desk at 801-863-8888.
  4. You have received an email that includes the link to your virtual Jumpstart session. Look for that email in your UVU email account. The email will also tell you what time you can begin checking in for your event. Please plan to check-in prior to your event time to ensure that your sound, video, and webcam is working properly. Your virtual Jumpstart session will last approximately 90 minutes. You must be present, with your webcam on and face visible, for the entire session in order to receive credit for participating.
  5. Your virtual Jumpstart will be fun and interactive! Please come ready to actively participate, talk with other students and your orientation leader, and learn how to be a successful Wolverine!
  6. If you are unable to attend this virtual Jumpstart as scheduled, please contact our office immediately to reschedule at 801-863-5491 or orientation@uvu.edu.
