Utah Valley University offers a comprehensive benefits package that supports you and your family's overall health, protects your income in the case of unforeseen illness and life events, and assists you in building financial security for retirement. Our many insurance options provide you with valuable coverage that meets your needs through all stages of your life.

ELIGIBILITY

Employees hired into positions in which the University has a reasonable belief that the employee will work at least 130 hours per month (30 hours per week) in a 12-month measurement period. These employees will be offered medical benefits coverage within the University's current waiting period. Dependents of the employee eligible for coverage include dependent children from birth to their 26th birthday and the employee's spouse. Married dependents under age 26 may be covered, however, the plan does not cover their spouse or dependent children.

HEALTH INSURANCE

UVU offers a competitive health benefit package. Medical, Dental and Supplemental Vision benefit options are unbundled and available on an individual basis.

  • Medical Insurance - The UVU medical insurance plans are self-funded by UVU and administered by Regence BlueCross BlueShield.
  • Dental Insurance - UVU offers one dental insurance plan option. The dental plan is self-funded by UVU and administered by EMI Health.
  • Vision Insurance - A supplemental vision plan is available through United Healthcare. It may be elected on the initial set up of benefits, or during Open Enrollment each April. The premium is paid by the employee.
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) - Allows benefit eligible-employees who select a Traditional Health plan the option to elect an amount to be deducted each payroll (before taxes) to pay for out-of-pocket medical, dental, vision, and dependent care expenses, tax free.
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) - Allows benefit eligible-employees who select a High Deductible Health Plan the option, to elect an amount to be deducted each payroll (before taxes) to pay for out-of-pocket medical, dental and vision expenses, tax free.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS

Full-time employees receive a 100% UVU paid retirement plan, with no waiting period. Retirement vendor options include TIAA, Fidelity, and Utah Retirement Systems. Employees will receive more information regarding retirement options upon hire.

SUPPLEMENTAL INSURANCE

Additional employee-paid supplemental insurance options are available through payroll deductions.

  • AFLAC – Cancer and hospital intensive care
  • MetLife Auto and Home – Available through MetLife
  • Legal Insurance – Available through Hyatt Legal Plans
  • Educational Savings – The Utah Educational Savings Plan (UESP)

EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

UVU has partnered with Reliant Behavioral Health to offer employees an assistance program (EAP) to help manage life’s challenges.

UVU Employee Dependent Well-being Progam Instructions

UVU TUITION REMISSION

UVU is dedicated to employee development and offers employees a financial benefit to aide in their higher education goals.

  • Benefit-eligible employees - UVU undergraduate tuition and student fees are waived.*
  • Spouse and dependents of benefit eligible employees - undergraduate tuition only is waived for the spouse and dependent children (unmarried, under age 26).*
  • Hourly Staff and Adjunct Faculty - May be eligible for undergraduate tuition and student fee waivers.*

LEAVE

UVU offers a wide range of leave options for full-time employees including, but not limited to vacation, sick, personal, and holiday. Refer to UVU policy 361 for additional leave information.

LIFE INSURANCE

UVU offers all full-time employees a Basic Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance policy at no cost to the employee. Voluntary Life and Voluntary Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance can be elected for employee, spouse, and unmarried dependent children, up to age 26, for an additional cost to the employee. UVU also offers employees coverage for life’s unexpected events in the form of Long-Term Disability Insurance (LTD) and Workers Compensation Insurance at no cost to the employee.
