What Social Impact Academic Opportunities are at UVU?

Social Impact Minor at the Woodbury School of Business & Social Impact Macro Courses in the Social Work Masters Program

The Center for Social Impact provides instruction for Social Impact Seminar, a 1-credit MGMT 292R course that gives an overview of the Six Pathways of Social Impact through lecture and guest speakers, and for the 3-credit Intro to Social Impact Frameworks and Strategies course in the Ethical Leadership and Social Impact Minor, both housed in the Woodbury School of Business. These courses can be taken as stand alone or as part of the minor, and are open to students of any major. Additionally, The Center has partnered with the Master of Social Work Program in the development and instruction of the 3-credit Macro Systems and Social Impact and Macro Design Thinking courses.

Service-Learning (SL) Courses

Additionally, at Utah Valley University, service-learning (SL) is a high-impact teaching and learning strategy that connects classroom learning with real-world community needs. Service-learning courses can be found by looking for the "SL" designation on courses during registration, and a full list of SL designated courses can be found here. Through our institutional partnership with the Innovation Academy,  the Center for Social Impact helps provide service-learning faculty with the resources and support to incorporate social impact strategy into their service-learning courses.

As a student or faculty member, if you see alignment between a course or department on campus and our approach, please email Cassie Bingham at to set up a collaboration meeting or guest lecture.

Faculty Development

The Center has partnered with the Innovation Academy and the Office of Teaching & Learning to help facilitate the Service-Learning Courses Tier II training for faculty who have already completed the Service-Learning Courses Tier I training and would like to enhance their pedagogy with advanced social impact strategy frameworks. Please reach out to Dr. Sean Crossland, Academic Director of Service-Learning at to learn more, and check out the Innovation Academy's Service Learning page here.
