Fostering a positive work environment for faculty and staff is vital to creating an inclusive, supportive campus environment for students. Student Affairs seeks to increase employee satisfaction, performance, and retention within our division and assist with these goals across the university.
Student Affairs is working in partnership with People & Culture to conduct a compensation analysis and address equity and pay issues within our division and the university. In addition to improving salary equity, we offer mentoring, appreciation luncheons, awards, team building, and more to all our employees to increase overall employee satisfaction.
The Student Affairs Directors Leadership team consists of all staff working in a directorial position within Student Affairs. We coordinate all our efforts with each other and create a space for leadership training and further professional development.
Student Affairs Institute of Leadership was founded in 2018 to assist Student Affairs staff members in their professional development and understanding of the UVU community. Cohorts for this program consist of 10-15 staff members selected from the various units across the division. Members participate in 6 sessions throughout the year to understand how Student Affairs collaborates with campus partners, including Finance and Academic Affairs, while also gaining personal development insights from the Student Affairs Leadership Team.
Additional events are held throughout the year to build community among Student Affairs staff members and recognizing their impact on student success.
Student Affairs assists with developing and presenting Foundations of Inclusion workshops hosted by the Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity. This professional workshop series educates UVU faculty and staff on the diverse backgrounds and challenges faced by many in our student body. Topics include accessibility, gender, queer identity & sexuality, race & ethnicity, and other relevant topics to promote an intersectional, inclusive campus environment. Student Affairs staff members are encouraged to take part in the professional development opportunities provided by People & Culture whenever possible. We emphasize the importance of being continuous learners in the workplace so we can improve the services we provide to students.
