Brigham Griffin

Brigham is a working professional marketing manager, with over 20 years of experience, mainly in telecommunications and other online services marketing. After starting his career with  Dutch global publisher Wolters Kluwer, he yearned for the adventure and wide open spaces of the rural west and took a position as Marketing Director for Direct Communications, where he managed all aspects of marketing for an independent rural telecommunications holding company, operating broadband companies in Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, and Missouri. Brigham currently consults as Marketing Manager for the Utah division of the company, which provides fiber broadband services to over 11000 customers in Eagle Mountain, Utah.

Like most marketing managers working in the real world, his responsibilities include product & brand management, social media management, strategic planning, advertising, customer retention, market research and analysis, marketing communications, and public relations.

Dr. Dustin Harding phd

Dr. R. Dustin Harding serves as Head of Research at UVU’s award-winning Sales Marketing Applied Research Test Laboratory (SMARTLab), as Head of Research at the Shadûf Institute, and as Assistant Professor of Marketing in the Woodbury School of Business at Utah Valley University, where he teaches marketing analytics and uses his knowledge of analytics to study consumer motivation and behavior.

Dustin previously worked as a Market Research Insight Analyst at Nu Skin Enterprises, a Consumer Researcher and Lecturer on Consumer Behavior at Grenoble Ecole de Management, and the Marketing Research Lab Manager at Brigham Young University.  He has conducted hundreds of consumer-focused marketing research experiments utilizing data from tens of thousands of consumers, and his research has been published in some of marketing’s highest ranking academic journals.  He has used his expertise on consulting projects for leading companies, including Adobe, Vivint, Henry Schein, Rakuten, and Skullcandy among others. 

Dustin earned his PhD and master’s degrees in Marketing from Grenoble Ecole de Management and his BS degree in Statistics from Brigham Young University.

Dr. eugene Seeley phd

Dr. Seeley worked in the software industry for nine years in international business before coming to academia.  He has been at UVU (AKA UVSC) since 1995. His bachelor’s degree is in French, master’s in international management, and Ph.D. in strategic management. He is proficient in French, Spanish, and Portuguese, and has studied German and Russian.  He currently teaches one of the international engagement classes in which he takes students on a week-long trip to Europe.

Gregory Smith

A management consultant by trade, Greg has over 30 years’ experience as an international consultant working in the C-Suite with organizations in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America.  Greg is highly sought after for his expertise in business development, international expansion and finance, strategic & market planning, multinational distribution and project management.  Greg works with students in their MBA Capstone and Consultancy experiences to hone newly learned skills and tools and integrate them into real-world projects.

Dr. Jeff Peterson phd

Jeff is an Associate Professor Organizational Leadership at UVU and is the Faculty and Curriculum Director for the MBA program.  He received a Bachelor’s of Science in Family Science and an MBA with an emphasis in Strategy and Information Systems from BYU.  He received a Master’s of Science in Business Administration and a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from the University of Washington.

He had an extensive career in industry with more than 25 years of experience.  He has been involved in several family businesses, several start-ups and has extensive management experience, including companies such as Grant Thornton and Intel.  He has consulted for Microsoft, Boeing, Starbucks, Weyerhaeuser, Premera Blue Cross and Pemco Insurance among many others.

Dr. Jeff Williams phd

Jeff is an Assistant Professor in the Accounting Department at UVU. He received his PhD in Accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2020 after receiving his B.S. in Accounting and Master of Accountancy degrees from BYU in 2015. His research employs the experimental method to examine management control system design, with a focus on the effects of personnel selection, relative performance information, and performance measurement. His research has been published in prestigious accounting journals including Contemporary Accounting Research and the Journal of Management Accounting Research.

Jonathan H. Dr. Westover is a professor and chair of Organizational Leadership, Academic Director of the UVU Center for Social Impact and the UVU SIMLab, and Faculty Fellow for Ethics in Public Life in the Center for the Study of Ethics. Jon has been published widely in academic journals, books, and practitioner publications. He is a regular visiting faculty member in other international graduate business programs and serves on a host of nonprofit, community, and association boards and committees and has received numerous awards for his teaching, research, and service to the community.

Dr. Kari Olsen Phd, cpa, cma

Kari is an associate professor in the Accounting Department at UVU. He received his PhD in accounting from the University of Southern California in 2015. He received his M.S. and B.S. in accounting from BYU in 2009. His research interests are centered on the links between personality characteristics and accounting, using both archival and experimental methods. The personality characteristics theme has led him to publish papers related to a variety of accounting sub-disciplines including managerial, financial, tax, audit, and systems. He has published in journals such as The Accounting Review, the Journal of Management, the Journal of Management Accounting Research, Accounting Horizons, Journal of Business Ethics, and more. His research has been recognized for its connection to practitioners including receiving the Impact on Management Accounting Practice award from the American Accounting Association.

Dr. Laura Ricaldi PhD, CFP

Laura is an Assistant Professor of Financial Planning in the Finance and Economics Department where she teaches a variety of classes in financial planning. Laura is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM with a passion for teaching. She loves to teach students basic financial literacy skills, but where she excels is teaching advanced topics like insurance planning and risk management, ethics for financial planners, and the CFP® Exam Prep course. The CFP® Exam Prep course helps prepare students to pass the industry standard of excellence, the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM designation. Currently the average pass rate for the CFP® Exam for UVU students enrolled in the prep course is about 81% while the industry average is around 55%. She received her Ph.D. in Personal Financial Planning from Texas Tech University, an MBA with an emphasis in Management and Leadership Skills, and a BBA in Accounting.

Dr. Maritza Sotomayor phd

Dr. Maritza completed her Ph.D. in Applied Economics at the Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona, Spain. She has taught undergraduate and graduate-level courses in different formats, face-to-face, online, hybrid, small, and large sections. She received the 2017 Excellence in Teaching Award. She has been a Senior Fellow for the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) since 2019. Her primary research interest and publications are on international trade issues, from the effects of regional integration in developing countries, intra-industry trade measurement, global value chains to comparative studies. Currently, her research interest is on the alternative indicators of the GDP. She has calculated the Human Development Index (HDI), the Inequality-adjusted Human Development Index (IHDI), the Gender Development Index (GDI), and the Gender Inequality Index for Utah and counties for 2014 and 2019.

Marty Van Wagoner

Marty is professional-in-residence faculty with over thirty years of professional experience, beginning with ten years at KPMG, one of the “Big 4” global accounting firms. He has served a wide range of clients, from very small local companies to a retailer with revenues of about $10 billion. He also has a great deal of international experience, including clients throughout China, Europe, the Middle East, Canada and Central America. He teaches continuing professional education to CPAs across the nation and has been an adjunct professor at the University of Utah and Roseman University, as well as a visiting professor at Peking University in Beijing, China.

Dr. Maureen Andrade Phd

Maureen Snow Andrade has an EdD in higher education leadership from the University of Southern California. Previous positions at UVU include Associate Vice President for Academic Programs, University College Associate Dean. Dr. Andrade holds the distinction of Principal Fellow from the Higher Education Academy in the UK for strategic leadership in teaching and learning. She has won several awards such as the Graduate Faculty Mentor award in UVU's School of Education, UVU's Faculty Excellence Award, and Best Online Delivery from UVU's Office of Teaching and Learning. Dr. Andrade has authored or co-authored several books, extensive journal publications, and book chapters. She currently serves as associate editor for Higher Education Pedagogies and as an accreditation evaluation team chair for the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Dr. Andrade's professional interests include business education, work-life balance, leadership, learning outcomes assessment, distance learning, curriculum development, learner self-regulation, student transitions, higher education access and success, and cross-cultural transitions. She is regular presenter at national and international conferences on these topics.

Dr. Mitch Murdock Phd

Mitch is an inventor, entrepreneur, and amateur landscaper as well as an Associate Professor of Marketing at UVU. He enjoys teaching undergraduate Digital Marketing classes and the Creativity and Innovative Problem-Solving course in the UVU MBA program. Mitch earned his doctorate in marketing from the University of South Carolina. His award-winning academic research that focuses on consumer well-being has been published in the most prestigious marketing journals including the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, and the Journal of Public Policy and Marketing.

An award-winning professor and highly experienced C-level business executive, Pat has led huge players such as Nabisco, Kraft Foods, Mondelez, and GameStop. He has an MBA and a Master’s in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University.  He works consistently with each of his students to polish their career acquisition tools and make the connections necessary to optimize performance and assure advancement success within their chosen organization. Pat also creates student-driven teams to guide local, national, and international companies to overcome obstacles and generate success. His dedication to engaged consulting experiences is a hallmark of the MBA program.

Dr. Ruthann Cunningham Phd

Ruthann is an Assistant Professor in Organizational Leadership and Healthcare Management. Prior to joining UVU, she was Population Health Network Engagement Leader for Intermountain Healthcare and assisted with the startup of a generic pharmaceutical company known as Civica RX. Her experience is in population health strategy, quality improvement, data analytics, and leadership consulting. Ruthann earned a doctorate degree from A.T. Still University, a certificate in Clinical and Quality Improvement from Intermountain Healthcare, and an MS and BS from Brigham Young University.

Dr. Steven huff phd

Steven is an award-winning professor, the UVU Marketing Dept. chair, and a visiting professor at UC Berkeley (EMBA/Product Management ExecEd). He holds a PhD in Marketing (Berkeley), an MBA (BYU), and a BS in Computer Engineering (USU). His passion is combining his education and consulting experience in Silicon Slopes and Silicon Valley to develop cutting-edge, graduate-level marketing curriculum. He has created thought-leading content in Product Management, Marketing Strategy, Technology Marketing, Creativity and Problem Solving, Design Thinking, Marketing Analytics, Marketing Intelligence, Pricing, and Digital Marketing. Before his PhD, he was an engineer at L-3 Communications and a marketer at Intel.

Dr. Vance Gough EdD, MBA, CD

Vance is an award-winning professor and is currently the academic program lead for Entrepreneurship at UVU. He previously taught for the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business where he was the Director of the Entrepreneurship and Management Project Office. He then served as a tenured Professor of Entrepreneurship at Mount Royal University’s Bissett School of Business, where he was a Program Chair for Entrepreneurship, Marketing and International Business. He holds an EdD in Workplace and Adult Learning, with his dissertation focusing on teaching methods for post-secondary Entrepreneurship students. Vance also has an MBA with majors in Finance, Marketing and Enterprise Development. Vance has been the founder of five companies, including the Prairie Mill Bread Company, an artisan bakery, which was named one of the Top 10 Bakeries in Canada by Homemaker Magazine. Dr. Gough has developed and taught courses in creativity, sustainable problem solving, design thinking, pitching ideas to potential investors, new venture consulting, business models, social entrepreneurship, enterprise formation and feasibility analysis. Gough previously served as both the VP Programs and then as VP Communications for the Canadian Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (CCSBE), Canada's premier national academic organization for entrepreneurship. Prior to coming to UVU, Vance also served for 23 years as a Reserve Canadian Armed Forces Officer, with senior positions in the Royal Canadian Navy. He retired from the RCN in 2014.

Dr. Xu Sun PhD

Xu is an Associate Professor in finance at UVU and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) holder. She has taught several undergraduate and graduate finance courses, including the CFA exam preparation courses. Xu is also a member of the CFA Salt Lake society and has participated in several society events with her expertise on financial investment. She holds the Senior Fellow for the Higher Education Academy and is very passionate in advising and mentoring students in research, project-based learning, and pursuing industry certifications. She completed her PhD in finance from University of Texas - Pan American (now University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley) in 2015 after receiving her bachelor degree in China. Her research interests include corporate board of directors, firm investment efficiency, institutional trading, and FinTech. She focuses on empirical studies and has published on journals including Review of Financial Economics and Financial Services Review.
