Students are placed with agencies whose mission and values are compatible with both the NASW Code of Ethics and CSWE accreditation standards.
Students must receive at least one hour of weekly supervision with an individual who has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) for at least two years.
Student practicums run concurrently with UVU's academic calendar, beginning in mid-August and concluding at the end of April.
Agencies are invited to attend an annual Field Fair held in February, which initiates the placement process for the following academic year.
Supervisors are invited to attend an annual Field Instructor Conference in mid-September, which includes an opportunity to earn free CE credits.

First-year MSW students complete a 400-hour generalist practicum, which includes opportunities for social work practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.
Second-year and advanced standing MSW students complete a 550-hour advanced generalist practicum, which may include an emphasis on working with individuals, families, groups, organizations, or communities.
Students have the opportunity to work in a variety of settings, including elementary and secondary schools, correctional facilities, hospitals, residential treatment centers, recovery programs, domestic violence shelters, mental health clinics, inpatient psychiatric facilities, and victim advocacy programs.
In addition to receiving weekly agency-based supervision, students meet for a weekly integrative seminar to discuss practicum-related challenges and receive support and guidance from MSW program faculty and peers.
