Before You Begin: Required Preparation Steps

  1. Meet with your academic advisor to discuss how internship credits apply toward your degree and graduation track.
  2. Secure an internship opportunity.
    • For personalized help finding opportunities, please contact Alyvia Meyer.
    • You may also search available postings on our Find Internships page.
  3. Secure an ENGL faculty mentor to guide you throughout your internship (this faculty member will also serve as your internship course instructor).
    • If your internship is with English Journals/Publications (e.g., Essais, Touchstones, Warp & Weave), your faculty mentor is the respective publication's faculty advisor.
    • Important: If a professor is serving as your internship site supervisor, you must select a different ENGL professor as your faculty mentor. The site supervisor oversees internship duties; the faculty mentor oversees the academic/course portion.
  4. Complete the Internship Orientation.
    • Important: Save your completion code (displayed on-screen and emailed to you). You'll need it for the application.
  5. Prepare the following information (required for the application form):
    • Name and address of the internship provider/company
    • Internship site supervisor's name, email, and phone number (this is the person who will mentor you on-site)
    • Average number of hours you will work per week
  6. Submit your application using the correct button below (choose based on your internship type).
    • The form (hosted on Qualtrics) takes about 15–20 minutes if you have your information ready.
    • After submission, allow 2–3 weeks for review. You'll receive approval and registration instructions (including CRN) by email.

Application Deadlines

Applications must be approved in time for registration. Check exact dates on the Student Dates and Deadlines page:

  • Select your semester
  • Scroll to the "Registration & Classes" section
  • Look for "Last Day to Drop with a Refund" (recommended final deadline for internship approval)

Tip: Apply early to allow time for processing!
