Before You Begin: Required Preparation Steps

  1. Meet with your academic advisor to discuss how internship credits may count toward your Autism Studies degree requirements.
  2. Meet with the Autism Studies Internship Coordinator for placement assistance.
    • Contact several months before your intended semester.
  3. Secure an internship opportunity.
    • Schedule an interview with an approved Internship Provider (coordinated through Jennifer Call).
    • Bring your resume to the interview.
    • You may also search general postings on our Find Internships page.
  4. Complete the Internship Orientation.
    • Important: Save your completion code (displayed on-screen and emailed to you). You'll need it for the application.
  5. Prepare the following information (required for the application form):
    • Name and address of the internship provider/company
    • Internship site supervisor's name, email, and phone number (this is the person who will mentor you on-site)
    • Average number of hours you will work per week
  6. Submit your application using the button below.
    • The form (hosted on Qualtrics) takes about 15–20 minutes if you have your information ready.
    • After submission, allow several weeks for review. You'll receive approval and registration instructions by email.

Application Deadlines & Prerequisites

Deadlines: Begin working with Jennifer Call several months in advance. Your application must be submitted at least 4 weeks before the start of the semester.

Prerequisite Course: You must have completed AUTS 2500: Understanding the Autism Spectrum before registering for internship credit.

Tip: Plan ahead—retroactive credit is not awarded.

Internship Guidelines for Autism Studies

  • Course Registration: If approved, you will receive email notification with registration instructions (including CRN).
    • Register for AUTS 4810R (internship) and the associated AUTS 4820R seminar course in the same semester.
    • Do not register until you receive approval.
  • Retroactive Credit: Credit cannot be awarded for internships completed before approval and registration.
