How do I apply for higher level programs?
You will need to meet with your advisor, and they will walk you through the steps of applying to the professional education programs. We recommend meeting with your advisor each semester so you will know the dates and deadlines to submit your program applications.
What classes are required for my degree?
Your advisor can help with course planning and registration and is also able to assist you with wolverine track which will show you the classes that are required for your degree. They will help you develop a graduation plan, so you know which classes to take each semester.
Do I need to meet with an advisor as a new student?
Yes, as a new student to UVU you will meet with the First Year Advising Center and their office is in the Losee Center (LC) room 402. For help locating the LC, please view our campus map. Your first-year counselor is here to serve as a resource for you as you make your transition to UVU.
How do I know who my advisor is?
Log in to myUVU, select the “Students” tab (if not already selected), and scroll down until you see a section titled "My Major." Within that section you will see “Primary Advisor” which will include the name and contact information of your assigned advisor and will also include a link to schedule an appointment to meet with them.
How can I get help with my coursework?
The best way to get help with your coursework is to utilize campus resources or seek assistance from your instructors during office hours.
Academic Tutoring Lab: Offers free tutoring in a variety of subjects, both drop-in and by appointment. Contact them at LA 201 or 801-863-5376, or email [email protected]. 801-863-5376.

What is the process for graduation?
During your 4th semester, you will apply to graduate (Spring graduation deadline is at the end of February). You must apply to graduate, whether you want to attend any of the graduation ceremonies or not. Commencement held at the UCCU Center is a university-wide event with a processional and keynote speakers. Convocation is for the School of Education where your name will be read as you walk across the stage to receive your diploma.
Are there opportunities to teach abroad?
During Summer semesters we offer two-week and six-week teaching experiences abroad. In the past we have been to Tonga & New Zealand, Finland & Estonia & Sweden, Spain, Singapore & S.E. Asia, and Peru. We also offer a six-week student teaching experience to the Navajo Nation.
How do I get placed for field work?
At the beginning of each semester students fill out a survey letting the Clinical Office know their top two districts they would like to be placed in. The Clinical Office then contacts coordinators from the district and schools to get students placed. Students should not set up placements on their own
Do I get paid for student teaching?
Yes. During the 2024 General Legislative Session, HB 221 Stipends for Future Educators was passed. This funding pays a stipend to Utah university/college students who are completing their student teaching in a Utah public school. The stipend is an award of up to $6000 per student. We will provide you with instructions on how to apply for the stipend after you have applied for student teaching.
Do I get paid for internships
Yes. An internship is usually a paid position. Typically, interns will get paid half salary and receive full benefits for the year.
When are applications due.
Deadline to apply for Fall entrance: March 1st
Deadline to apply for Spring entrance: October 1st
When I graduate how do I get licensed to teach
Once you graduate and your degree has been posted, our Licensing Specialist will recommend you for licensure. You will want to check your student email regularly, because they will update you once you have been recommended and send instructions with some steps you will need to take.
