Fall 2015 Student Council Bios

Our student council is comprised of six outstanding individuals. Each member brings a different taste of culture. Here are their bios to better know our student council:

Steven Zhang

President

Steven Zhang is 25 years old. Aside from leading the ELL Student Council, Steven is also the vice president of the Chinese Club. He likes to work out, play basketball, run and make new friends. His motto is “If you can’t get a miracle, become one” from Nick Vujicic, Life without Limits.

Laura Lucena

Vice President of Student Success

Laura Lucena is from Valencia, Venezuela. She graduated with a degree in human resources from Carabobo University in 2011. She is currently a Level 3 ESL student. Laura enjoys the outdoor activities such as swimming, hiking and camping. She also likes to hang out with her friends and watch movies. One of the reasons she joined the council is to improve her English.

Kazuki Yamaguchi

Vice President of Activities

Kazuki Yamaguchi is from Japan and has been learning English here for 11 months. He wants to learn about art in the near future. Kazuki has a twin brother, both like to teach Japanese. Kazuki is happy that he’s able to build relationships with his English skills. He hopes to help others and make more friends.

Li Uei Huang

Basic Level, Level 1 and Level 2 Representative

Li Uei Huang is from Taiwan. She is currently in level 4. Before coming to the U.S. Li Uei studied nursing. In her spare time she likes to draw and take pictures. She hopes to become an illustrator for children’s books in the future.

YangTaek Seo

Level 3 Representative

YangTaek Seo was born in South Korea, Sung-nam on Feb. 24, 1990. Prior to studying English at UVU, YangTaek was a chief sergeant in the Air Force for four years. He was discharged from military services and came to the U.S. to study English. His goal is to become a pilot someday.

Camila Estefania

Level 4 Representative

Camila Estefania Yanez Flores  was born and raised in Quito, Ecuador. She is currently 19 years old. Before coming to UVU, Camilia studied political science and international relations. She loves to dance, spend time with family and friends, travel, meet new people and do outdoor activities. Her goals are to learn two other languages, travel around the world to help others and improve the living conditions for people and for their future.
