The U.S. Department of Education has awarded a $31.5 million seven-year GEAR UP grant to Utah Valley University. The grant is led by Barney Nye, Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, and Ruben Rocha, Director of GEAR UP Utah.
“We are thrilled to announce that Utah Valley University has been awarded the prestigious GEAR UP award for the next 7 years from the U.S. Department of Education. Utah Valley University competed in a nationwide grant competition and obtained the highest score and thus granted $31.5 million to serve low-income students throughout the state. This new grant is the biggest grant ever awarded at Utah Valley University to date. This grant will play a pivotal role in helping GEAR UP Utah achieve the goals of helping those underserved students in achieving their college dreams, and we are incredibly grateful for the confidence and trust that Utah Valley University has placed in our work. We look forward to using this opportunity to further our mission of providing awareness, academic readiness, and opportunities for all GEAR UP Utah students by engaging them early, expanding their capacities, increasing student expectations for successful completion of high school, and supporting students in their pursuit of post-secondary education and future aspirations.”
