LGBTQ+ Student Services offers programming for staff & faculty as well as students. Our goal is to educate the campus community on LGBTQ+ topics and create a safe space for queer students to celebrate their identities and community. InQueery

InQueery is an educational program devoted to education, outreach, and advocacy regarding LGBTQ+ issues. Through student panels, we seek to foster an inclusive campus community that welcomes, understands, and supports all identities and lived experiences. Our flexible approach creates space for discussions that meet your group’s needs and works on four basic principles:

  • Providing information.
  • Combating homophobia, transphobia, heterosexism, and cisgender bias.
  • Creating visibility for the LGBTQ+ resources on campus.
  • Communicating through dialogue and personal contact.

Potential InQueery topics include LGBTQ+ terminology, coming out experiences, harassment and violence, religion, and social and cultural constructions of sexuality and gender.

Foundations of Inclusion: Queer Identity & Sexuality

As part of the university’s Foundations of Inclusion program for faculty, staff, and administrators, LGBTQ+ Student Services staff teach a workshop on identity and sexual identity. This workshop is offered at least once a semester and counts towards the employee Foundations of Inclusion certificate.

Safe Zone Training

Safe Zone training seeks to foster an environment of inclusion for LGBTQIA+ individuals at UVU and in the surrounding community. This workshop raises visibility and promotes allyship through:

  • Educating UVU staff and faculty on queer issues, how to recognize them, and how to intervene when they witness discrimination.
  • Increasing visibility of people, departments, and programs who can provide resources to LGBTQIA+ students and community members.
  • Creating a safe(r) environment on campus free from restrictive transphobia, homophobia, heteronormativity, and cisgender bias.

Our Safe Zone Training will be a multilevel program to ensure that there is adequate education and training before someone is considered Safe Zone trained and given the completion certificate. We have two sign ups available currently. We have Safe Zone level 1 for general sign up and then we also have a Safe Zone signup for departments to sing up for a large group.
