To Dennis Smith, the child is a metaphor for life. Children’s lives, as they explore the world around them, parallel our lives as adults as we discover our identity in this universe. Bright, bold, and bursting with color-drenched patterns, the paintings of Jeanne Leighton-Lundberg Clarke shimmer like the intricate stained-glass panels of an abstract cathedral. Bedecked with animated hues and kaleidoscopic designs, her works flirt with visual overload, a befitting quality for someone who christened herself a maximalist. Her works demand attention with their vibrant luminosity and methodical patterns, which collide in an abstract tapestry of designs.

The artist’s west coast pop aesthetic will be on display at the UVU Museum of Art at Lakemount from December 5 to March 2.
