2025 UVU Strategic Reinvestment Updates

UVU has launched a Strategic Reinvestment Plan for 2025-26, doubling down on our efforts to ensure every dollar we spend goes toward helping students succeed in school, work, and life.

Utah Valley University (UVU) is taking a thoughtful and proactive approach to align its programs with the needs of today’s students and tomorrow’s workforce. As part of this effort, UVU has launched a Strategic Reinvestment Plan for 2025-26, doubling down on our efforts to ensure every dollar we spend goes toward helping students succeed in school, work, and life.

This work is being done in response to HB 265, recently approved by the Utah Legislature, which directs higher education institutions across the state to better align their offerings with workforce demands. You can read more about the bill on the Utah Legislature website: https://le.utah.gov/~2025/bills/static/HB0265.html.

What Is Strategic Reinvestment?

It’s a process of reviewing and evaluating where our funding goes, making sure we’re investing in the most strategic places. Using data on enrollment, costs, and workforce trends, UVU has identified key areas where additional support will make the biggest difference for students and the state.

This includes programs that lead to high-demand jobs, offer a high return on investment, and support students’ ability to graduate faster and more prepared for the workforce.

Where Are We Reinvesting?

UVU is reallocating $8.9 million to support high-impact areas like:

  • Applied artificial intelligence, computer science, and engineering
  • Health and behavioral wellness
  • Workforce-aligned programs in accounting, construction management, and chemistry
  • Student success resources like online expansion, new media education, laptop and hotspot access, and success coaches
  • General education enhancementsthat focus on critical thinking, communication, and durable skills

How Did We Decide?

This was a collaborative process. Over the past months, UVU engaged with shared-governance groups, hosted town halls, sent campuswide surveys, and created task forces. A draft of the plan was submitted to the Utah System of Higher Education (USHE) on May 23. It was then presented to the USHE Board on June 6. After reviewing the materials and listening to the presentation, the board approved the UVU plan.

What’s Changing?

To free up resources for these investments, we are streamlining some low-enrollment or low-demand programs, reducing administrative costs, and realigning instruction through retirements and position changes.

What’s Next?

This is an ongoing process. As the finer details of the plan evolve, we’ll continue to share updates and invite feedback. Should you have additional questions, please feel free to send them to the following link.

UVU is proud to be a place where students are at the heart of everything we do. Strategic reinvestment ensures we continue to offer a high-value education that prepares students for meaningful careers and strengthens our local economy.
