Utah Valley University (UVU) and Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) signed a landmark transfer agreement that creates a seamless pathway for SLCC graduates to continue their education at UVU.

Utah Valley University (UVU) and Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) signed a landmark transfer agreement that creates a seamless pathway for SLCC graduates to continue their education at UVU. The signed memorandum of understanding (MOU) guarantees automatic admission to UVU for students who complete an associate degree or higher at SLCC, increasing higher-education opportunities for Utah students.
As part of the agreement, SLCC students transferring to UVU can qualify for transfer scholarships, including awards that match their SLCC scholarships. Students who hold full-tuition scholarships at SLCC are now eligible for UVU’s Outstanding Scholarship, which covers up to two years of tuition. The pathway has also been extended to international students, ensuring access to higher education for all.
UVU President Astrid S. Tuminez praised the collaboration, calling it a positive step forward in UVU’s role as an Opportunity College and University, a designation awarded by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education in April of 2025.
“At UVU, we believe in the power of education to transform lives,” Tuminez said. “This agreement with SLCC is more than a transfer pathway — it was a promise to students that their dreams were valid, their goals achievable, and their potential limitless. As an Opportunity College, UVU was proud to lead with access, affordability, and excellence in higher education.”
Greg Peterson, president of SLCC, Utah’s largest community college, said this collaboration strengthens SLCC’s ongoing commitment to student success. “This collaboration is emblematic of how Utah’s System of Higher Education can work together to streamline processes, keep education affordable, and encourage students to continue to persist in achieving their educational goals,” Peterson said. “If students succeed, we all succeed.”
The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education recognized UVU as one of 479 institutions nationwide committed to advancing student success and economic mobility. This designation highlights UVU’s impact in helping students from diverse backgrounds earn competitive wages and build successful careers.
The agreement between SLCC and UVU will remain in effect for five years, with annual leadership meetings planned to assess outcomes and ensure continuous improvement.
