Frequently Asked Questions

Is UVU's Aviation Science program fully online?

Aviation Science is an Online-Plus program. Coursework is delivered 100% online with no scheduled video sessions or campus residency required, but FAA flight training is a required part of the curriculum and cannot be completed online. You can complete flight training at UVU's Provo, UT facility or at any FAA-approved flight school near you.

Do I have to complete flight training in Utah?

What's the difference between the Professional Pilot and Aviation Management degrees?

The Bachelor of Science in Professional Pilot prepares you to earn your Commercial Pilot Certificate and meet airline hiring requirements in two-thirds of the usual time through UVU's FAA-certified R-ATP status. The Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management focuses on the business and operations side of the industry, preparing graduates for roles in airport operations, airline management, and aviation compliance.

Does the Aviation Science Certificate count toward my degree?

Yes. The Aviation Science Certificate of Proficiency is stackable — credits apply directly toward the Aviation Science Associate of Science (A.S.) or Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.), which in turn apply toward the Bachelor of Science in Professional Pilot or Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management. The A.S. is auto-awarded once you complete the Aviation Management bachelor's degree.

What careers can I pursue with an aviation degree from UVU?

Graduates pursue careers as commercial and regional airline pilots, flight instructors, corporate and charter pilots, airport operations managers, aviation safety coordinators, and more, depending on which track you choose.

Is UVU's aviation program accredited and FAA-certified?

Yes. UVU's Professional Pilot program holds FAA-certified R-ATP status, allowing graduates to meet airline hiring requirements in two-thirds of the usual time. UVU is also regionally accredited, and program-specific accreditation details are available through the Aviation Department.
