The UVU PREP Year 1 Application is open to 6th grade students attending public school the Alpine, Nebo and Provo school districts. The program is FREE to qualifying students. The UVU PREP application deadline to apply is January 31st, 2023. In order to be considered for this program please provide the following:

UVU PREP runs Monday-Friday for 6 weeks.

(M-TH) 8:20 am to 3:10 pm

UVU PREP is offered at no cost to the participants.

Attendance
What is the attendance policy?
Each child will be allowed three absences before probable dismal from the program.
Can my child miss days of UVU PREP to go to other camps (church camps, sports camps,
etc.) or family vacations?
No, UVU PREP’s intensive curriculum moves quickly and students will fall behind if
they miss even one day.
What if my child has been absent three days and then gets sick?
It is best to save the absences for family emergencies and sicknesses. You are welcome
to appeal absences by emailing the Program Coordinator at partnership@uvu.edu.

What courses will my student be taking?

All students will participate in daily Career Awareness Seminars & Soft Skill lessons, Tech Tuesday workshops, and weekly field trips.
Homework
Will there be homework and how often?
Expect homework every night in every class. Homework should take 30 minutes to an
hour per class.
Will I be able to help my student with their homework?
Because the homework is advanced math and science, we cannot guarantee that all parents
will be able to help their children. We HIGHLY recommend the student take notes in
class to take home both for homework help and to study. Additionally there will be
a tutor table at lunch where they can ask for additional help.
What happens if my child does not complete a homework assignment?
After the third missed or incomplete homework assignment, the student will miss the
upcoming Friday field trip and will stay at UVU campus in a study hall from 8:20 am
until 12:00 pm where they can receive the help that they need to catch up. In order
to help students who are falling behind, students who are missing three or more homework
assignemnts will be asked to use the tutor table at lunch.
Teacher Recommendation
What is a “teacher recomendation”?
Each student applying for Year 1 is required to submit their Math teacher’s name and
email addresswhen applying (link provided on website). This teacher will receive an
email with a link to a survey, in which they will rate the student regarding academic
performance, conduct in class, willingness to participate in class, maturity, punctuality,
eagerness to learn new things, etc.
Transportation
You are responsible for arranging transportation to and from UVU PREP each day for your child. All participants will be provided with a free UTA/UVX pass that can be used during the duration of the program. UVU PREP will provide transportation to and from field trip locations.
What is a “Zero Tolerance” policy?
A strict policy on obedience and cooperation is maintained. This means your child will be dismissed from the program for any of the following: cheating, bullying, disrespectful behavior, disregard for written or verbal rules, etc. Please refer to the Student Parent Handbook for more information.
In 1979, Dr. Manuel P. Berriozabal, a professor of mathematics at the University of Texas at San Antonio, founded the Prefreshman Engineering Program (PREP), to identify high achieving middle and high school students with the potential and interest in becoming scientists and engineers. After seven years, PREP expanded across Texas and became known as TexPREP. The program has successfully developed into a nationally recognized organization known as PREP USA. Following the award-winning curriculum of PREP USA, Utah Valley University introduced UVU PREP in June 2013.
