We are excited to announce a t-shirt design competition promoting our Alan Hall Marketing and Sales Invitational! We are looking for creative and unique designs that capture the essence of the UVU values as well as the event itself. The winners will be announced during the UVU Marketing Invitational.

Submission Guidelines:

Theme: The theme of the t-shirt design competition should be promoting the Alan Hall Marketing and Sales Invitational event.

Eligibility: The competition is open to all high school students who register for the invitational.

Deadline:The deadline for submissions is 11:59 p.m., April 10, 2024.

Submission:

All submissions should be digital and sent through the following Google Form: https://forms.gle/NcGSiHh9Cg1HDckm6. Please fill out the form with your name, school name, email address, and the t-shirt design file.

Design Guidelines:

  1. Inclusion of the UVU Monogram : All designs must incorporate the official UVU monogram. This includes the official UVU logo and not merely the text. Participants should adhere to the following:
    • Integrity of the Monogram: The monogram's original design must remain unchanged. Please refer to the UVU style guidefor official colors, logos, fonts, etc., to ensure compliance (https://www.uvu.edu/marketing/docs/uvu brand guide-v10.0.6.pdf).
    • Placement and Visibility: The monogram may be positioned anywhere on the t-shirt but must be surrounded by sufficient clear space. This is to ensure the monogram stands out prominently and is easily recognizable.
  2. Incorporation of  “Alan Hall”: While you have creative flexibility in other design aspects, the inclusion of the text "Alan Hall" is a mandatory element as an homage to the generous donor behind this invitational.
  3. Promotion of the Invitational Event: The design should serve as a visual invitation to the event and capture the event’s essence as a dynamic and engaging experience for high school marketing students at the UVU campus. Your design should ideally:
    • Highlight the Experience: Illustrate the unique opportunity for participants to gain valuable marketing and presentation skills in a hands-on, field day setting.
    • Emphasize Competition: Reflect the competitive aspect of the event, showcasing it as a platform for students to test their marketing acumen against their peers from top local high schools and win scholarship money and lots of cool prizes.
    • Educational Opportunities: Incorporate elements that represent learning opportunities about UVU's marketing and other business programs, as well as insights into careers in marketing.
    • Color Limitation: To maintain visual coherence and printing feasibility, designs must use no more than four colors. This restriction encourages creativity within a defined palette, ensuring designs are both striking and practical to reproduce.
  4. Submission Format and Size: The t-shirt design should be 8.5 x 11 inches in size, aligning with standard print dimensions for ease of evaluation and display. Acceptable file formats for submission are .jpeg or .png, chosen for their wide compatibility and quality retention.

Judging Criteria:

The t-shirt designs will be judged based on creativity, originality, relevance to the theme, and overall appeal. All submissions will be displayed on the day of the Invitational where UVU faculty, staff, and event participants will vote for the winning designs.

Prizes:

  1. Scholarship: Winners of the competition will be honored with scholarships to support their educational pursuits at UVU, with one recipient for each prize level:
    • Please notethat in order to claim their scholarship prizes, winners will be required to sign a Creative Works License and Model Release (the 'License'), granting UVU certain rights to use and distribute the winning designs. This step ensures that all parties understand and agree to the terms under which the creative works will be utilized.
  2. Design Highlight: The winning designs will have a chance to be printed on t-shirts and given out to all the participants at the next year’s event.
    • Please note that the selected designs may undergo modifications to align with UVU's branding and production requirements. These adjustments will be made by our design team to ensure consistency with UVU's standards and the overall aesthetic of the event's merchandise. Participants should note that these modifications will be final, and there will be no notification regarding the changes made.

We are looking forward to seeing your designs and showcasing the winners during the UVU Marketing Invitational!

Product Design & Advertising Competition

Hosted by Professor Brigham Griffin  and Kamal Ahmmad, PhD

[email protected]
[email protected]

Teams of 4 to 6 students.

This is a creative group project. This will take 1 hour from start to finish.

Each group will be assigned a different product category. Your task as a group is to think of a new product and build a prototype for that new product that will meet a specific need for a market segment within an industry which will be assigned to you. You will then need to develop a creative pitch to sell this new product you have built.

  1. Think of a good product that fits a consumer need in your assigned industry.
  2. Build your product prototype as best you can as a group using the materials provided. (Play-Doh)
  3. You will now play the role of an ad agency. Develop a creative script for an ad to pitch this product to the target audience. You will act this out live in front of the judges and the other groups. Some ideas for the pitch are:
    1. Straight delivery (pretend you are talking into the camera)
    2. Creative advertisement
    3. Infomercial
    4. Home Shopping network presentation
    5. Interview
    6. Product demonstration
    7. Sales pitch

Feel free to use your imagination and come up with new ways to pitch this product.

Students are welcome to enter multiple competitions and should! Prizes will include departmental scholarships that can be stacked on to other financial aid they may receive, technology, gift cards, and some swag thrown in for good measure.

There will be a total of 5 breakout sessions and the competitions and events all fit within one of these sessions, except for the sales competition which requires 2 consecutive sessions to complete; so, students have time to complete 4-5 events on the day. Additionally, the resume and T-shirt design competitions should be completed ahead of the event and don’t require any additional time on the day. Students are also welcome to register for additional events at check-in if they were unsure at the time you submitted your group registration form. The main purpose for advance registration was so that we could get a headcount for lunch.
