Contact Hour Requirements

A contact hour is defined as the total number of actual hours per week a student spends attending class or other instructional activities that count toward completing a program of study.
UVU calculates the contact hours from a course’s credit ratio, where:
LEC hours + LAB hours = Total Contact Hours per Week.

Academic Departments are responsible for ensuring each course section fulfills the minimum contact hours per week. Always verify the credit ratio entered is correct by referencing the Course Catalog.
