Required Contact Hours per Week

Academic Departments are responsible for ensuring each course section fulfills the minimum required contact hours per week.  Always review the Course Catalog or Curriculum Office tools to verify the credit ratio entered is correct.

Contact hours are defined as the total number of hours per week a student spends attending class or other instructional activities that count toward completing a course. UVU schedules by contact hours -- not by credit hours or by lecture hours alone.  Contact hours are calculated from the course credit ratio, where:

LEC hours  +  LAB hours  =  total Contact Hours per week
