  5. Mandatory New International Student Orientation & Check In
Please contact our International Student Service Team (ISS Office) within a day or two of arriving in Utah so that they can assist you with the check-in procedures and guide you through questions regarding registering for classes. Email them at [email protected]

If you are transferring from another U.S. institution, the check-in is still a primary part of our protocol, so once you receive a UVU I-20, please be sure to contact the ISS Office.

Additional Information

Notice of Processing Time

Please allow 3-4 weeks after submitting your application for the documents to be reviewed, processed, and returned to you. Applications are processed in the order in which they are received.

If you are transferring from another U.S. institution, please note

  • Your current school must complete the Transfer-In Form before UVU can admit you. This form allows UVU to communicate with your current Designated School Official (DSO) but does not guarantee admission.
  • During your UVU application, you’ll provide the name and email of your current DSO. Your previous school will complete the form, enabling you to submit your application in full.
  • Once admitted to UVU, give your acceptance letter to your current school to confirm your active SEVIS record (I-20) before they transfer you to UVU.
  • You’ll also need to provide an official transcript from your current institution showing proof of full-time study. Send transcripts to UVU’s Transfer Credit office. You can find out more information on their website at UVU Transfer Credit.

All new students will be required to complete check-in with our ISS Office [email protected], and attend a mandatory orientation.

HB-118 Non-Resident Tuition Waiver

Any student who holds a valid non-immigrant visa who meets specific requirements may be exempt from paying the non-resident portion of the total tuition at Utah Valley University. Find requirements and check to see if you qualify on the HB Applications page.

Please note that the international admissions office does not process these applications or requests.

Change of Status Requests

Utah Valley University does not process change of status requests for international students. However, there are two main pathways to obtain an I-20 from UVU and pursue your F-1 student visa:

  1. Apply as an Out-of-Country Student:
You may submit your application to UVU from outside the United States. After receiving your I-20, you will apply for your F-1 visa at a U.S. embassy or consulate in your home country. Once approved, you can enter the U.S. with your F-1 visa and I-20 to begin your studies at UVU.

  2. Change of Status through Another Institution:
If you are currently in the U.S. and wish to change your visa status, you may apply to a local school that is willing to assist with the change of status process. Once you have successfully obtained your F-1 status, you can then apply to UVU as a transfer student. After submitting the required documentation, you may transfer to UVU as an international student.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please contact the International Admissions Office at [email protected]. We are here to help you navigate your options.
