Complaint Process
Utah Valley University encourages students and prospective students to first address
complaints with the personnel in the office, department or college that caused the
alleged grievance.
Formal Complaints
Online, Distance, or Independent Study (Correspondence) Program Complaints
Utah Valley University (UVU) is a participating institution of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA). This means UVU adheres to the established standards for offering post-secondary online/distance
education programs in all member states.
- Current or graduated students who desire to report NC-SARA complaints related to online,
distance or independent study programs (including authorization/professional licensure
complaints) must report to UVU's Office of Accreditation and Academic Assessment at
[email protected]. It is also recommended that students send a direct message to the Director of Accreditation
and Academic Assessment to ensure complaints are received. Current or graduated students
can send a message or call via the UVU Directory.
-
Once UVU has received the complaint, staff will conirm its receipt and then route
it for review by the Director, Associate Vice Provost of Academic Program, Assessment,
and Accreditation, and the Office of General Counsel.
If you believe your complaint is unresolved, UVU recommends following these steps
based on your location during the completion of your program.
For students residing in Utah
- If students reside in Utah and UVU does not resolve the complaint, students can file a complaint with the Utah System of Higher Education via their reporting website.
For students residing outside of Utah
- If students reside outside of Utah and UVU does not resolve the complaint, students may file a complaint with UT SARA (UT SARA Complaint Process) or to their state's NC-SARA enforcement authority. Note: they may refer a complaint to another agency for investigation. Before escalated complaints
will be reviewed, students will be expected to provide proof of due diligence in working
with the institution such as following UVU's reporting process (reporting these concerns
to [email protected]).
Fraud, False Advertising, or Other Deceptive Practices Complaints
- Complaints against the University relating to fraud, false advertising, or other deceptive
practices can be filed with the Utah Division of Consumer Protection.
