What is Perkins?

The reauthorized Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act through the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V) has a purpose to develop more fully the academic knowledge and technical and employability skills of secondary education students and postsecondary education students who elect to enroll in career and technical education programs and programs of study.

  • Perkins Funding is designated to specific areas of focus in our area. These areas are updated every 4 years and are determined based on a needs assessment of our local workforce need and economic development.
  • Allocated funds should be used to expand program accessibility to entry level students in a way that improves their employability in skill-based education (certificates, Associates Degrees, etc.)
