A Message from President

General Sherman, the largest single stem tree in the world, located in Sequoia National Park in California.Dear Friends,

One of the most powerful books I have ever read is Richard Powers’ The Overstory, a novel about people and trees, but mostly trees. This profound story has encouraged me to think about the interconnectedness of all life and the necessity of taking the long view. Giants of nature such as the redwoods, which can grow over 350 feet (the equivalent of a 37-story building) and live for hundreds, if not thousands, of years, remind me to believe in the power of seeds and the necessity of planting.

UVU began as a seed planted 80 years ago by those who believed in human potential and the power of education. Today, what was once tiny Utah Technical College has become one of the largest and most dynamic institutions in the state and the country. “Come as you are — UVU has a place for you” is our invitation, and it has been well received. UVU has empowered tens of thousands of students with the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to lead a more dignified, happy, and productive life. And it has only just begun. Like a tree whose every ring tells a story of growth and storms weathered, UVU, too, is still growing, overcoming challenges, and seizing opportunities.

In the spirit of planting seeds and taking the long view, I am delighted to introduce EverGREEN, the campaign for UVU. A crucial part of UVU's Vision 2030 — our 10-year roadmap to supporting student, workforce, and community needs — EverGREEN is focused on strengthening UVU’s financial foundation and building a multi-generational legacy.

EverGREEN’s priorities align with Vision 2030 and UVU’s mission of student success. We will focus fundraising efforts on three key strategies from Vision 2030:

  • Include
  • Engage
  • Achieve

The great psychologist William James said that “[The] greatest use of life is to spend it on something that will outlast it.” UVU is exactly that kind of cause. Like a young and strong sapling, it is just getting started. It will grow a giant canopy. It will shelter and nourish the dreams of generations yet to come.

Our ambitious fundraising goal honors our rich history while training our eyes on a future of achievement and impact. With your help, we can elevate the experience of every UVU student, helping them unlock their potential to change the world.

Thank you for supporting EverGREEN!
