Positions

Tutors:

Our Math Lab tutors are trained and certified individuals who performed well in the courses they now tutor. We hire tutors for three departments: pure mathematics, statistics, and quantitative literacy mathematics. Responsibilities will include tutoring students both individually and in groups, tutoring face-to-face and online, and participating in required training and certification. All tutors must be familiar with and have been successful in the mathematics courses they will be responsible for.

Office Assistants (OAs):

Our Math Lab office assistants are responsible for making sure students sign in and out of the lab, checking books in and out, and helping administrative staff as needed. Candidates must be able to work the morning shift and should be comfortable interacting with people in person, through email, or over the phone.

Supplemental Instruction:

Our Supplemental Instruction (SI) leaders attend all class lectures, work with professors to help students achieve course goals, and hold weekly sessions to go over difficult material. All SI leaders must be familiar with and have been successful in the mathematics courses they will be responsible for. Preference is given to candidates who have earned an A- or higher in course material.

Required Events

Monthly Training Meetings

Tutors

All new tutors are required to complete CRLA Level 1 in their first semester of employment. In order to facilitate this, tutors are required to attend monthly training meetings during their first semester of employment. Trainings are held from 9 am to 11 am one Saturday each month during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Supplemental Instruction

All Supplemental Instruction leaders are required to attend monthly training meetings during the Fall and Spring semesters. Dates and times are determined at the beginning of each semester.

Pre-semester Orientation

All employees must attend a half-day orientation held the Friday prior to the start of both the Fall and Spring semesters.

This day of paid training entails meeting new staff and welcoming back returning staff, attending group meetings and break-out sessions, and participating in team building exercises.
