Students at Utah Valley University come from all walks of life, and we’re glad you’re here. The Latino Initiative is here to support you as enter higher education with advising, workshops, and other resources.
Receive UVU credits for coursework you previously completed by contacting the Transfer Credit Department. Both domestic and international transcripts are accepted.
If you are transferring credits from an international school, your transcript must be evaluated by an approved foreign credential evaluating company. Learn more on the Transfer Credit website or contact a Latino Initiative coordinator for assistance.
UVU offers GED courses in Spanish through the School Community University Partnership. The classes are taught 100% in Spanish and are held in person every Saturday.
We host workshops throughout the semester geared towards adult learners who want to return to college. Learn more on our Events page.
The Latino Initiative has coordinators ready to meet with you one-on-one to help you throughout your time at UVU. We can assist you with the application process, transferring international credits, and more. Spanish-speaking appointments are available with Jeanelle Carden.
With the closure of UVU’s English Language Learning program, we encourage English learners to attend Community Education ESL classes. While classes are available at skill levels ranging from beginners to high intermediate speakers, these classes may not be suitable for students looking for more intensive English courses. Our Community Education courses may not cover the full spectrum of English language components required for college-level success.

For UVU students looking to develop proficiency in college-level writing, UVU’s Literacies and Composition department offers ENGH 0890 and ENGH 1005 for both native and non-native English speakers. Non-native English students are required to take a placement exam. However, this assessment does not evaluate listening, speaking, reading, and grammar skills that may be required for success.
