Before School Starts: Your Action Plan

Students are more likely to succeed with a strong support system, and their families are often the first place they turn for help. As you help them navigate financial aid, learn about campus resources together, and cheer them on from the sidelines, your support makes a difference.

Parent and Family Orientation

In addition to your student’s orientation, we also offer orientation for our students’ parents and families. Gain insight into how you can support your student and facilitate connections.

FAFSA Information for Parents

Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) makes college more affordable for your student through grants, loans, and work-study opportunities. You may need to provide tax information and other financial details as you fill out the application with your student.

UVU Student Success Resources

There are lots of resources available for your student on campus. Review all of UVU’s Student Success Resources and create a list of things to discuss with them before school starts.

Student Onboarding

Get your student familiar with the New Student Checklist and make sure they complete all of their onboarding steps, from online orientation to setting up their UVU account and registering for classes.

Student Record Privacy and FERPA

Per federal law, UVU is unable to provide parents information on students’ academic records under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Your student must designate you as a delegate to grant you permission to view certain information.
