Begin Your Wolverine Journey With Confidence
We’re here to give you a smooth, stress-free beginning at UVU and walk you through everything on your to-do list.
Our New Student Checklist includes every step you need to follow once you’re admitted to UVU. That way, you know exactly what to do and when to do it. These tasks are important for all student types, from first-year students to transfer students, adult learners, and online-only students.
Are you still thinking about applying to UVU? Apply on the Admissions website.

You’ll use myUVU, the university’s online portal, to connect to essential student tools and resources. To access your account for the first time, you’ll need your student ID number (UVID) in your acceptance email. The default password is your birthdate in MMDDYYYY format, with no spaces or dashes (e.g. 12312000 for December 31, 2000).
Login to myUVUYour UVID is the student ID number you’ll use throughout your college career for everything from your student email and library reservations to getting exclusive discounts at the Campus Store. Be sure to learn it by heart!
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), a federal privacy law, governs student education records and information privacy. That puts you in control of who UVU shares your non-directory information with (some exclusions apply). When you log into your myUVU, you will be prompted to create a security phrase and an option to assign account delegates if needed.
You will use your security phrase when you interact with UVU employees when they need to quickly verify who you are.
This is not your myUVU password, and you will deliver it verbally. Choose a security phrase that is easy to say and remember and that is not embarrassing.
Create a Security PassphraseYour UVU email address will be in the form of your [email protected] (e.g. [email protected]). Students receive crucial information from UVU through their student email about things like registration and financial aid, so please check it regularly. You will also receive updates about your classes from Canvas, UVU’s learning management system, by email.

Your academic advisor can help you decide on a major, choose classes that fit your schedule, make a graduation plan in Wolverine Track, and plan for your future professional and academic goals. You can find your advisor and their contact information listed in your myUVU under ‘My Major.’ You will meet with the First-Year Advising Center if you are transferring less than 30 credits, or you have not declared major.
We recommend meeting with your advisor two months before the semester begins so you can plan your course schedule early and determine whether you need to take a math or English placement test (link to subpage) (e.g. schedule an appointment in June before fall semester begins in August).
Meet With Your Academic AdvisorMath and English are crucial general education requirements. Learn more about these requirements and how to register for the best course for your needs.
UVU uses priority registration based on completed credits to make sure students can register for the classes they need when they need them. You can find your registration priority level on the Schedule website and on your myUVU dashboard.
When registration opens for your priority level, log into myUVU and navigate to the Registration & Academics tab. You will be able to register for classes through the Add/Drop System or the Schedule Wizard.
