On January 30, 2025, the UVU Board of Trustees approved the following policies to be added, revised, and deleted in the Policy Manual.
Compliance Change
Policy 541 Student Code of Conduct
Approval Process | Compliance |
Policy Sponsor | Michelle Kearns |
Policy Steward | Ashley Larsen, Maren Turnidge |
Policy Actions | Revisions—Limited Scope |
Board of Trustees Action | Approved |
Policy Manual Entry | Policy 541 |
Who does this apply to? Students and Student Affairs staff
What is changed in this policy? The Stop Campus Hazing Act was signed into law on December 23, 2024. This new law requires institutions of higher education to, among other things, use prescribed definitions of “hazing” and “student organization” for purposes of prohibiting, tracking, and reporting of hazing. The law also requires public reports, updated twice yearly, on student organizations that engage in hazing. The revisions made to this policy provided updates to definitions of “hazing” and “student organization”and mandated a regular report on hazing activity (if any) by student organizations.
Now that this policy is in effect in the Policy Manual, what does this mean for me?University employees will want to understand their responsibilities in reporting hazing. Students will need to understand what hazing is and that it is prohibited.

Policy Deletions
Policy 105 Reporting Organizational Changes
Policy 322 Employment Responsibilities and Standards
Policy 353 Group Healthcare Coverage for Benefit-Eligible Employees
Policy 374 Termination Clearance for Hourly Employees
Policy 375 Termination Clearance for Salaried Employees
Approval Process | Regular |
Policy Sponsor | Marilyn Meyer |
Policy Steward | Drew Burke |
Policy Actions | Deletions |
Board of Trustees Action | Approved |
Who does this apply to? Employees
Why are these policies being deleted? These policies were deleted for the following reasons:
Policy 105: Organizational changes such as reorganizations, restructures, and position reclassifications are currently handled through People and Culture and departmental processes and procedures so this policy is no longer needed.
Policy 322: Recent updates to Policy 371 Performance Management and Development for Staff Employees and Policy 635 Faculty Rights and Professional Responsibilities currently govern conduct and behavioralexpectations for staff and faculty so this policy was redundant.
Policy 353: Every employer’s health plan is required by law to have a controlling document called “The Plan Document,” which governs the administration of the benefits plan under federal law. Policy 353 summarizes the provisions for continued group healthcare coverage (COBRA) for eligible employees. Having a policy summarizing The Plan Document is redundant and could create risk if there were a conflict between the annually updated Plan Document and Policy 353.
Policies 374 and 375: Off-boarding departing employees is now handled through People and Culture and departmental processes and procedures.
