Approval Process | Regular |
Policy Sponsor | Kara Schneck, Wayne Vaught |
Policy Stewards | Tearsa Burke, Wendy Simmerman |
Policy Actions | Revision |
President's Council Action | Entrance to Stage 2 |
Pipeline Draft | Policy 104 |
Who does this apply to? University leadership involved in overseeing program advisory boards and advancement boards
How is this policy being revised? Policy 104 currently addresses all advisory boards on campus. However, the advisory boards have recently been split into two separate categories: program advisory boards and advancement boards. These boards have different expectations for their board members, which need to be clarified. Revisions clarify the differences between advancement boards and program advisory boards, including the expectation for financial commitments and contributions.
Now that this policy is in Stage 2, what does this mean for me? If you have comments or concerns, submit them to your elected representative.

Policy 635 Faculty Rights and Professional Responsibilities

Policy Actions | Revision and Deletion |
President's Council Action | This bundle is being resubmitted for review by university shared governance entities. |
Pipeline Draft | Policy 323, Policy 365, Policy 635 |
Who does this apply to? Faculty and staff who may engage in consulting and may wish to use consulting leave
How is this bundle being revised? This bundle was in Stage 2 in 2021. It did not advance because some concerns from university leadership needed to be addressed. These concerns have been addressed, and the updated drafts will go through Stage 2 again.
Updates to Policy 365 include
- adding clear expectations that employees must prioritize their university responsibilities, and external employment or consulting activities must not interfere with their designated work schedule or duties
- permitting full-time employees up to 12 unpaid days of consulting leave per calendar year, granted at the university’s discretion
- requiring that employees use consulting leave when consulting occurs during the designated work schedule, and accrued vacation or personal leave must be used for missed work time
- requiring employees request and receive prior approval for consulting leave
- clarifying that employees cannot represent their consulting work as affiliated with the university, use UVU trademarks, or improperly use university property
An update to Policy 635 stipulates that faculty who wish to alter course schedules, content, or delivery to meet non-university professional obligations must seek prior approval as specified in Policy 365 Consulting Leave.
Now that this policy is in Stage 2, what does this mean for me? If you have comments or concerns, submit them to your elected representative.
