On September 3, 2025, UVU's Board of Trustees approved the following policy actions:

Policy 532 University Student Groups

Approval Process Regular
Policy Sponsor Michelle Kearns
Policy Steward Alexis Palmer
Policy Actions Revision
Policy Document Policy 532

Who does this apply to? Students and employees involved with student groups, including clubs

How was this policy revised? In response to concerns over UVU’s level of control over student clubs and competitive sports, it had been advised to eliminate fiduciary oversight of clubs and competitive sports programs to reduce the University’s liability in working with student groups.
This policy has been revised to include competitive sports and further explain clubs' fidiciary responsibility. This includes the following changes:

  • defining competitive sports similarly to other student organizations
  • including fiduciary responsibility language stating that clubs and competitive sports
    • cannot use UVU's name, tax ID, or banking information for travel, contracts, or fundraising
    • may fundraise with prior approval
    • must manage funds in a commercial bank account under their own name
    • must ethically manage finances and maintain documentation

Policy 601 Classroom Instruction and Management

Approval Process Regular
Policy Sponsor Wayne Vaught
Policy Steward Kat Brown
Policy Actions Revision
Policy Document Policy 601

Who does this apply to? Faculty and students

How was this policy revised? Updates to this policy include

  • revisions to the approval process for syllabus revisions;
  • clarification that accessibility requests must be done in compliance with Policy 152 Accommodations for Individuals with Disabilities;
  • clarification that religions accommodations requests must be done in compliance with Policy 153 Religious Accommodations;
  • new language about enrolled students bringing minors to the classroom;
  • clarification that faculty may cancel or change the modality of specific class times for valid professional academic reasons, including academic conferences, workshops, etc., and after adequate notice to students and the department chair

Policy 633 Faculty Performance Evaluation and Feedback

Policy 654 Faculty Merit Pay (Deletion)

Approval Process Regular
Policy Sponsor Wayne Vaught
Policy Steward Kat Brown
Policy Actions Revision, Deletion
Policy Document Policy 633

Who does this apply to? Faculty

How was this policy revised? The faculty self-evaluation and five different categories for annual review ratings have caused much confusion. The current merit pay system is too complicated, involves too many people, and grants access to personnel files that may not be appropriate. Changes to this policy have simplified the merit pay process. Additionally, content was deleted from Policy 633 that dealt with post-tenure review because UVU now has a separate post-tenure review policy (Policy 638).
