Policy Pipeline Updates: Policy Actions Approved by President's Council, May 11, 2026

On May 11, 2026, UVU's President’s Council approved the following policy actions:

Compliance Change

Policy 153 Belief Accommodations

Approval Process: Compliance

Policy Sponsor: Marilyn Meyer

Policy Steward: Drew Burke

Policy Action: Revision—Limited Scope

Policy Documents: Policy 153

Who does this apply to? All members of the university community

What does this policy revision address? This update revises Policy 153 to comply with HB 204 and related Board and Utah Administrative Code requirements governing student religious and conscientious belief accommodations. The changes expand protections by requiring reasonable accommodations for scheduling conflicts and certain objections to required coursework unless doing so would fundamentally alter a program, while also establishing clear procedures for notice, confidentiality, instructor response, denials, and neutral review to ensure a consistent and legally compliant process.

Now that this policy is in the Policy Manual, what does this mean for me? If you have questions about these compliance changes, contact the policy steward.  The Board of Trustees will ratify this policy at their next meeting on June 25.

What revisions were made to this policy? This policy has been updated as follows:

  1. Updated the approval process for awarding an endowed chair or professorship. Section 4.1.1 now requires approval from the President, the Provost, the Vice President of Institutional Advancement, the appropriate dean, and the chair of the department.
  2. Changed the amount required to establish an endowed chair or professorship. Section 4.2.5 now says that President’s Council determines the minimum endowment required to establish an endowed chair or professorship and that the Vice President of Institutional Advancement and the Provost review the minimum amount every five years.
  3. Added a review and renewal process, a search and appointments process, and a reallocation and new appointment process.

Now that this policy is Stage 2 University Entities Review, what does this mean for me? Any comments may now be submitted to governance entities leaders. Stage 2 ends September 25.
