check five

We all know that Wolverines are resilient, but that doesn’t mean that we have to deal with the stresses surrounding COVID-19 alone. We invite all Wolverines to join us in the Check Five Challenge, where we encourage the UVU community to reach out to five people each week to ensure personal connections are still a part of our lives in spite of social distancing. Together we can be united while apart.

Choose your Five

The Check Five Challenge is all about strengthening relationships. When thinking about who you want to connect with each week, consider the following relationships in your life:

  • Friendships → neighbor, roommate, significant other, or friends you haven’t spoken with in a while
  • Educational relationships → professors, advisors, mentors, or classmates
  • Professional relationships → coworkers, employers, or employees
  • Familial relationships → partner, siblings, cousins, grandparents, or in-laws

connect mail

Find a way to connect

There are so many ways to stay in touch, so try out a few of these and find the one that works best for you.

  • Phone → send a text, make a call, or leave a voicemail
  • Computer → schedule an online chat or send an email
  • Social media → post a comment, send a DM, or tag them in an uplifting post
  • Standard mail → send a postcard or handwritten letter

conversation

Start a meaningful conversation

The first time you reach out can be a little intimidating, but just remember the Check Five Challenge is meant to let people know that you care about their well-being. You can start with small talk, but be genuine with your conversation.

We’ll be posting a weekly question to our social media pages to help you with conversation ideas, so be sure to follow #CheckFiveChallenge. Some questions are uplifting and some are humorous, but they all serve the same purpose to help open the door for conversation.

encourage

Encourage other Wolverines to Check Five

Let those you’re close to know about the Check Five Challenge and encourage them to join the challenge. The more Wolverines we can get involved, the more united we can be while apart.
