Cyberattacks on UVU
UVU is experiencing a cyberattack by a group of determined hackers. As a result, UVU is seeing a large increase in attacks on end users.
To combat this large attack, we have increased security measures for users of Microsoft Authenticator. The Microsoft Authenticator app will now prompt you for a two-digit numeric code when you log in using a password.
To simplify your login and increase your account security further, we recommend all users switch to passwordless authentication (see https://uvu.edu/transformations/passwordless.html). Once passwordless authentication is set up, be sure to use it on all of your devices. Please avoid using text and phone calls for authentication, as the attackers have successfully tricked users into giving them the text code.
Attacks may come in the form of phishing, password guessing, and trick phone calls or texts.
As always, if you encounter something suspicious in your email, do not click on any links. Instead, hit the "Report Message" button in Microsoft Outlook.
UVU staff holidays in December and January
UVU will be closed from December 23 to January 2. The TIMS system will recognize these campus closure dates as paid leave days for full-time employees. Part-time staff employees may work additional hours during the first few weeks of December to make up for work time that would be missed due to the campus holiday closure later that month--up to 123 hours in the month of December and with supervisor approval.

COVID-19 Info Resources for Staff
According to the CDC, Utah County is at a low level of COVID transmission. Community levels are determined by tracking hospitalizations, wastewater, and reported testing results. They are provided as a guide for your decisions on prevention steps.
Continued recommendations include:
- If you are athigh risk for severe illness, talk to your healthcare provider about whether you need to wear a mask and take other precautions
- Stayup to datewith COVID-19 vaccines
- Get testedif you have symptoms
- COVID-19 vaccination is strongly encouraged but no longer required to attend UVU. Vaccination and boosters protect against severe disease even with BA.5. Vaccinations are available through the Utah County Health Department and traditional providers.
- If you are feeling unwell, please avoid coming to campus. We want to keep our campus community healthy.
- Free COVID-19 at-home test kits are available at Student Health Services, Human Resources, and Campus Connection. These are distribution-only sites, and there will not be anyone available to answer COVID-related questions. You can find answers on the CDC website or by contacting your healthcare provider.
We no longer track COVID-19 cases on campus or provide vaccination, but vaccines are available through your healthcare provider, a variety of pharmacies, and the Utah County Health Department.
Monkeypox
We are in contact with the Utah County Health Department as a part of the monitoring process. There are few cases in Utah County, and no cases reported at UVU. Monkeypox is a rare disease that is caused by infection with the monkeypox virus, which can be transmitted person-to-person through:
- Direct contact with the infectious rash, scabs, or body fluids
- Respiratory secretions during prolonged, face-to-face contact, or during intimate physical contact, such as kissing, cuddling, or sex
- Touching items (such as clothing or linens) that previously touched the infectious rash or body fluids
Please refer to the emergency management webpagefor more details about monkeypox and UVU’s response.
The most helpful action we can take is to avoid others if we are ill. If you are not feeling well, please get tested and avoid contact with others.

Faculty, staff, and students who usually park in M23 and M29 are encouraged to ride UTA or park in L9 or L10 until 12:30 pm when the event is over. Anyone who is on campus that morning should be prepared for heavy traffic and possible parking congestion in other lots.
