Programs & Events

One of our key functions as part of UVU’s campus community is to provide opportunities, both big and small, for students of the African diaspora to connect with each other and celebrate our unique cultures. ADI hosts regular events throughout the month, as well as several larger programs throughout the year.

Regular Events

Weekly Meetings

We host weekly meetings for students to connect with classmates and student leaders.

  • Every Thursday from 7-9 p.m. in LA 114.

Monthly Networking

We gather to create opportunities for students to foster connections with faculty, staff, and community mentors.

  • The last Wednesday of each month from 11:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. in LA 114

 

Programs

ADI’s annual events are a core part of how we connect with African and Black students and our community outside of campus.

  • BIPOC Student and Professional Kickoff
    The goal of this event is for students to find inspiration, learn about post-graduate opportunities in STEM-related fields, and to connect with peers and potential mentors.
  • Proud to Be African
    An opportunity to celebrate African and African diaspora students and heritage through food, music, and performances!
  • African and Refugee Student Leadership Conference
    Presentations on federalism, national development, democratic governance, constitutionalism, and conflict resolution.
  • African Diaspora Holiday show with Ngoma y’Africa Cultural Center
    Through narration, dance, storytelling, and musical performances this production tells the story of an African family separated and ultimately reunited during the holiday season.
  • MLK Commemoration Week
    Join us as we honor and celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the American Civil Right Movement for this year’s UVU MLK Commemoration.
  • Black History Month (February)
    Celebrate Black History Month with us, and learn about the histories, successes, and stories of resistance and resilience.
  • Student Leadership Retreat (April)
  • African Diaspora Graduation
    Celebrating our graduates and networking with staff, faculty, and alumni!
  • Juneteenth & World Refugee Day Celebration (June)
    Come celebrate Juneteenth with us through music, food, community, mental health awareness, and art appreciation.
