Choosing to go to graduate school is a big decision, and there’s more to your choice than just the program you want to study. At Utah Valley University (UVU), we know that you need more than competitive programs and hands-on learning to succeed. Graduate students need support and value student life just as much as undergraduates.

Whether you’re returning to school after completing your bachelor’s, asking big questions and doing advanced research in your field, or balancing work commitments with your studies, UVU has programs in place to support you and help you thrive during your graduate studies.

Academic Support and Advising

UVU Graduate Studies is here to support your success, in and out of the classroom. One of your biggest advocates for your academic success during your graduate studies is your program manager or coordinator. Graduate program coordinators and faculty advisors can help you navigate your coursework, answer questions about program requirements, and help you meet your goals. To connect with your program manager, visit the graduate programs contact page.

For additional academic support, there are labs and tutoring centers available to help you succeed.

  • The Graduate Writing Center at UVU works with advanced writers to help you with graduate studies coursework. Whether you need to brainstorm for classroom assignments or need support for your thesis paper or project, the Graduate Writing Center has consultants ready to help.
  • Business Labs at the UVU Business Resource Center have the resources you need to develop and test your ideas, including an AI Lab, 3D Printing and Electronics Lab, and the Video and Podcast Lab.
  • Your college’s advising office, such as Smith College of Engineering and Technology (SCET) Advising and School of Education (SOE) Advising, may have additional support available. Meet with your program manager to learn more.
  • The Career and Internship Center can help you grow professionally throughout your graduate studies. You can get help polishing your CV, preparing for industry interviews, or finding internship and job opportunities in your field.

Funding Your Graduate Education

The cost of graduate school can be a major barrier to continuing your education. UVU’s graduate programs are flexible and affordable and can be supplemented with the following available ways to pay for your education. Some of these options have early deadlines, so, plan ahead.

  • FAFSA: The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required to check if you qualify for federal loans and some university funding. Learn more about completing the FAFSA at UVU Financial Aid.
  • Graduate Scholarships: There are many scholarships and tuition waivers available for graduate students. Learn more about graduate tuition and financial aid on the Graduate Studies website.
  • Graduate Assistantships: Various departments offer graduate assistantship positions that provide tuition benefits and stipends in exchange for research, teaching, or administrative support. Connect with your program manager for more details.

Student Life Programs for Graduate Students

There’s more to graduate school than just your academic studies. While you balance life, health, and work responsibilities alongside your education, UVU student services are available to support you.

Some offices have credit requirements for students to access services. Graduate students are considered full-time if they are enrolled in nine credits or more.

  • Health and Wellness: Graduate students can receive a free membership at the Student Life and Wellness Center (SLWC) when taking six credits or more. Mental Health Services are available for students enrolled in at least nine credit hours.
  • Child Care: The Wee Care Center offers affordable child care for all UVU students pursuing a degree.
  • Food and Housing: The CARE Hub has a food pantry available to students and program coordinators to help you access community resources to meet your basic needs.
  • International Graduate Students: UVU Graduate Studies has additional support for students attending UVU as international students.

Whether you’re on campus or studying remotely, you’re part of UVU’s graduate community. Make the most of your experience by reaching out to the offices, centers, and departments that are always ready to help. Explore more resources for graduate students on the Graduate Studies website.
