Today, October 9, 2025, UVU's President’s Council approved the following policy actions:

Entrance to Stage 2

Policy 662 Graduate Program Credit and Graduate Requirements

Approval Process Regular
Policy Sponsor Wayne Vaught
Policy Steward Steven Sylvester, Laurie Sharp
Policy Actions Revision
President's Council Action Entrance to Stage 2
Pipeline Draft Stage 2 Draft

Who does this apply to? Faculty and staff working in graduate programs; students participating in graduate programs

How is this policy being revised? The revision significantly streamlines Policy 662 by removing content related to continuation and enrollment management, focusing exclusively on credit and graduation requirements. The policy title reflects this change, dropping "Continuation" entirely. Substantive policy changes include:

  • Special Topics Credit: Reduced from 20% of the degree to a fixed six credits maximum
  • Transfer Credit: Broadened from "regionally accredited" to "accredited institution or equivalent" with detailed criteria
  • Second Master's Degree: Now explicitly requires 15 unique credits (clarified rule)
  • Definitions: Streamlined from 8 definitions to 5, removing operational terms

Now that this policy is in Stage 2, what does this mean for me? You may now submit comments to your elected senator or to the policy steward. Stage 2 ends December 19, 2025.

Entrance to Stage 3

Policy 635 Faculty Rights and Professional Responsibilities

Approval Process Regular
Policy Sponsor Wayne Vaught
Policy Steward Kat Brown
Policy Actions Revision—Limited Scope
President's Council Action Entrance to Stage 3
Pipeline Draft Stage 3 Draft

Who does this apply to? Faculty

How is this policy being revised? This is a limited scope change to clarify teaching expectations, such as taking personal vacation that interfere with holding regular class during the semester, and not altering or reducing their contract teaching period. The other change was technology accessibility requirements regarding Title II changes that we want to remain in compliance with.

Now that this policy is in Stage 3, what does this mean for me? This policy will now go to Board of Trustees.
