About

Accreditation is a critical indicator of quality and accountability within higher education and teacher preparation. It ensures that academic programs meet rigorous standards established by recognized accrediting bodies, affirming that the institution prepares candidates for professional practice. For UVU’s School of Education, accreditation ensures that curriculum, program practices, faculty qualifications, facilities, and student outcomes prepare graduates for licensure and employment within the profession.

Utah Valley University’s accreditation through NWCCU indicates the university meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality. An accredited college or university is one which has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation.

UVU’s School of Education is a member in good standing of AAQEP. The elementary, secondary, and special education programs have been awarded full accreditation by AAQEP through June 30, 2027. Full accreditation acknowledges that a program prepares effective educators who continue to grow as professionals and has demonstrated the commitment and capacity to continue to do so. The UVU School of Education anticipates receiving full accreditation of its school counseling and school leadership programs in 2027.
