Transfer Military Credits

Utah Valley University evaluates military transcripts to award college credit for military courses completed during military service. This process helps veterans and service members receive recognition for their prior learning and accelerate their academic progress.

If you are using Veterans Affairs (VA) Education Benefits, the VA requires that all prior credits be evaluated. This means you must submit all official transcripts — including military transcripts — for review.

Accepted Transcripts

Veterans and service members must submit one of the following:

  • Joint Services Transcript (JST) for Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Coast Guard, and Space Force
  • Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) transcript for Air Force

Students who have completed Initial Active Duty for Training (IADT) may also be eligible to receive credit for:

  • EXSC 1097: Fitness for Life
  • HLTH 1100: Personal Health and Wellness

Submitting Military Transcripts to UVU

All official military transcripts must be sent directly to UVU to [email protected] using a secure transcript exchange company. Transcripts may also be mailed in a sealed envelope to:

Joint Services Transcript (JST)

The JST is the official academic record for service members in the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Coast Guard, and Space Force. UVU evaluates JSTs using recommendations from the American Council on Education (ACE).

Evaluation Process

  • Award credit only for the military courses listed on the JST transcript, not the military experiences.
  • Courses that directly match UVU courses and apply to your declared degree program will be awarded credit automatically and cannot be removed.
  • Other military coursework that does not apply to your program of study will not be awarded credit.

If you believe you’ve earned credit that wasn’t awarded, contact your academic advisor or the Military-Affiliated Student Hub (MASH) to request a reevaluation.

Awarded JST credit may affect your full-time status and VA benefit eligibility. Always consult with your advisor and MASH before making changes.
