Consul General of Vietnam to lecture at UVU

Consul General Nguyen Ba HungUtah Valley University is pleased to host His Excellency Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung, consul general of Vietnam in San Francisco, who will discuss “Vietnam: Emerging from its Warn Torn Past into a Dynamic Country” on April 18 at 10 a.m. in Sorensen Student Center, room 213a.

“Vietnam has experienced an ever-increasing level of prosperity since the devastation of the Vietnam War,” said Rusty Butler, associate vice president for UVU’s Office of International Affairs & Diplomacy, which is sponsoring the event. “The country’s emergence into a regional power in economics and leadership is very compelling and will be of great interest to our students.” 

Prior to his appointment to San Francisco, Nguyen was director general of the Americas Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and counselor for Political and Economic Affairs at the Vietnamese Embassy in Washington, D.C.

He has also headed Vietnam’s Office for Seeking Missing Persons, which searches for American missing servicemen in the Vietnam War. Nguyen has a master’s degree in international public policy from John Hopkins University, was a fellow at Georgetown University and studied international public law at the Institute of Social Studies in the Netherlands.
