COVID-19 Info Resources for Staff

New COVID-19 "Steady State" Protocol

Governor Spencer Cox announced Utah would transition to what is called a “Steady State” by the end of March. That transition has now begun and will impact UVU in the following ways.

Vaccines

COVID-19 vaccines will be available at UVU, including the second booster shot for those who meet thecriteria, until May 5 or until supplies run out. Vaccination remains the surest way to protect yourself and others from illness, and we continue to encourage everyone to become fully vaccinated. While the state is no longer providing vaccines, they will still be available through healthcare providers.

Testing

The last day of drive-thru testing is Friday, April 15. The last day of testing in UVU’s current clinic is May 5. After that, students, faculty, and staff can obtain free at-home testing kits from the Human Resources Office, Student Health Services, or Campus Connection. The testing kits will be available through summer semester. UVU will not track the results of the at-home test kits or provide contact tracing. Current contact tracing will also end on May 5.

The governor acknowledges that this is not the “end” of the pandemic. If we see another surge, teams and contracts will remain in place to allow for a quick ramp up if necessary.

We are pleased that the key metrics are moving in the right direction. Vaccines are widely available, treatments are more accessible, and testing can now be done at home. Still, we ask that you stay vigilant. If you are sick, stay home, get tested for COVID-19, and please do not return to campus until you are well.

Dx Half-time

Every Wednesday at 11:45 is the Dx Half-Time meeting.  You can access the meeting in the OIT - Public Team (in Microsoft Teams) in the Half-Time channel (Hidden channel). This meeting is only 15 minutes long, and everyone in Dx is invited.

IR gardening

Thank you to everyone who submitted a picture! Here are some fun things people in the department have been doing at home (in alphabetical order by first name):

Christine: I am not a gardener, and I practically kill every plant in my house, so this low-maintenance cactus was perfect for our apartment. I got it a year ago and it's still going strong!

Christine's cactus

Douglas: There is one pear tree in my yard. Looking at the picture, it looks like the tree will be loaded with pears this year. The daffodils come up every year, along with the tulips--they are the first to bloom in my yard.

Geoff: We're going to be upgrading our flower gardens. New bark, new plants, maybe a rosemary bush. Stuff like that. (This is Geoff's first spring in his new house.)

John: The cherry tree is in full bloom, but the large grape vine has yet to show signs of life. We're planning on planting an herb garden along the overgrown areas on the margin and perhaps some berry bushes. (This is John's first spring in his new house.)

Jolie: Here are my only two plants. The one that is in the blue pot is a Chinese Banyan tree that will one day grow to be a full 40 inches. The other plant I have yet to pot since I received one of her leaves as a gift. I put her in water to grow some roots, and as you can see, she is growing very nicely. She is a hairy spiderwort and her name is Susan.

Leisa: I have tulips in bloom, my peas are starting to come up, and I have 37 pots of strawberries on my porch that I am going to transplant once the weather decides to stay warm. All but two of the potted strawberries came from runners from last year's strawberry plants (the other two I bought from a greenhouse/nursery). I also have three celery plants in pots that I need to plant in my garden.

Stephanie: This is my attempt to "force" some rhubarb. The traditional terra cota pots are super $$, so I'm using a large bucket. Blocking the light is supposed to make the rhubarb sweeter.

Tim: A few Spring pictures from our yard this weekend… (apricot blossoms, unidentified purple flowers, poppies, and asparagus).

Todd: I just built this strawberry tower and planted 2 different types of strawberries.
