Do I need to apply for admissions differently if I am coming from another institution?
The application process for transfer students is the same as any other undergraduate student. However, you may need to submit your college transcripts as part of the application. Learn more on the Transfer Admissions page.
I am in the middle of my semester at my current institution; can I still apply now?
Yes. Students can apply while they are in the middle of a semester at a different university. You will need to send your current transcript. When you complete the semester, you will need to send an updated transcript to our Transfer Credit office.
How can I tell if my credits will transfer to UVU?
Use UVU’s Transfer Guide to see how courses from other institutions typically transfer. Final evaluations are completed after official transcripts are received.
Do I need to submit transcripts from all colleges or universities I have attended?
Yes. UVU requires official transcripts from all previously attended institutions in order to evaluate transfer credit.
Can you award credit for my AP scores or transfer work from a transcript?
No. UVU only awards credit based on official transcripts and score reports to ensure accuracy of credit awarded.
When will my transcript be processed after I submit it?
Once your official transcripts are received, evaluations are typically completed within one week. Processing times may vary during peak registration periods. Courses that need to be sent to an academic department for evaluation will show as "Being Evaluated" and may take longer than one week to complete.
Are the Transfer Guide equivalencies guaranteed?
UVU Equivalent Courses are subject to change without prior notice. Credit will be awarded based on the equivalent in effect at the time UVU receives and evaluates the official transcript.
Can I submit a copy of my official transcript that was sent to me by email?
No. Transcripts must be sent directly from the issuing institution through an approved secure method or in a sealed envelope. Transcripts sent as email attachments are not considered official.
Can I submit a transcript that was mailed to me and opened?
No. Transcripts that have been opened or handled by the student are not considered official. They must be sent directly from the issuing institution.
How do I transfer AP scores?
Request that your AP scores be sent to UVU through your College Board account. UVU’s college code is 4870.
How do I transfer concurrent enrollment credit?
Concurrent enrollment credit is transferred by submitting an official college transcript from the institution that awarded the credit. The coursework will be evaluated like any other college-level transfer credit. Credit cannot be awarded based on a high school transcript.
Does UVU accept BYU Pathway credit?
BYU Pathway courses completed through BYU Idaho or Ensign College are eligible to receive credit at UVU.
Does UVU accept ACE recommended credit (such as Sophia Learning or Straighterline)?
It depends. Acceptance of ACE-recommended courses, including Sophia Learning, is determined by the academic departments and is subject to change. Because ACE recommendations are approved for specific timeframes, courses may need to be re-evaluated when those timeframes are updated, and a course that was previously accepted may no longer receive equivalent credit. If you have questions about a specific course, please check the current Transfer Guide or contact our office.
Can I request a reevaluation if I believe my transfer credit was evaluated incorrectly?
Yes. Email us at [email protected] for the re-evaluation form. To make sure we have the most accurate information, a syllabus is required from the time you completed the course.
Why isn’t my transfer course fulfilling the Global Intercultural requirement? The course number has a “G” in it.
Transfer courses only fulfill the Global Intercultural (GI) requirement if they have been specifically approved with the GI attribute. Even if a course transfers as a “G” course, it will rarely meet the GI requirement. All GI courses must be reviewed and approved by the GI committee.
If I transfer with a degree, will my general education requirements be complete?
It depends on where your degree was earned. If it’s from a USHE school, most general education requirements will be waived, except for any specific requirements needed for your major. Degrees from non-USHE schools are reviewed individually and may not meet all requirements — if you’re unsure how your degree applies, feel free to contact our office.
Will my GPA from another institution transfer to UVU?
No. Transfer courses are accepted for credit, but grades from other institutions are not calculated into your UVU GPA.
Can I retake a course at another institution to replace a grade earned at UVU?
Yes. If you retake the course at another institution and earn a higher grade, it can count toward your graduation requirements. However, transfer grades are not included in your UVU GPA, and only the lower UVU attempt will be removed from your GPA calculation.
How do I submit my military (JST) transcript?
JST transcripts can be requested online free of charge. Visit our Military Credit page (link) for more information.
Why were some of my military credits not accepted?
UVU evaluates military credit based on whether it is directly equivalent to UVU coursework and applicable to your degree. Not all training or experience will align with academic requirements, so some credits may not be awarded. To request additional credit to be awarded, you can work with your academic advisor to complete the JST Additional Credit form.
Do I need to complete Online Orientation?
Yes. Online Orientation is required for all new UVU students and will provide you with the information, resources, tips, and tools you need to make a successful transition to UVU.
Am I required to attend Jumpstart Orientation?
Jumpstart is required for all new students transferring less than 15 credits and younger than 21 years old. For all other new students, including transfer students, we highly recommend attending our optional Transfer Jumpstart Orientation.
What is Transfer Jumpstart Orientation?
Transfer Jumpstart Orientation is your first step to feeling at home at UVU. While it’s not required for students transferring 15 or more credits, those age 21 and older, or students in fully online majors, we strongly encourage all students, including transfer students and adult learners, to attend. It’s a great opportunity to build connections, get familiar with campus, and learn how to make the most of your UVU experience.
How do I find my academic advisor?
Log in to myUVU, select the “Students” tab (if not already selected), and scroll down until you see a section titled "My Major." Within that section, you will see “Primary Advisor,” which will include the name and contact information of your assigned advisor and will also include a link to schedule an appointment to meet with them.
If you are transferring less than 30 credits, you will meet with a First-Year Advisor. If you transfer more than 30 credits, you will meet with a program-specific advisor.
Are there scholarships for transfer students?
Yes! UVU offers a scholarship to transfer students based on your GPA, number of credit hours transferring, and residency status. For more information about our Transfer Scholarship and more, visit the Financial Aid and Scholarships website.
