By mail:

  • Call 888-442-4551, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET, to request that VA send the application to you. Fill it out and mail it to the VA regional claims processing office that’s in the same location as your school.

  • Work a school certifying official in the Veteran Success Center.

With the help of a trained professional:

  • You can work with a trained professional called an accredited representative to get help applying for education benefits.

Veterans

Chapter 33 Post 9/11 GI BILL®

Eligibility: Veterans (Former Active Duty)

Required Forms

In-state tuition and fees are paid directly to UVU. Monthly housing allowance and book money are paid to the student via direct deposit or mailed check.

Chapter 31 Veteran Readiness & Emp. (VR&E)

Eligibility: Disabled Veterans

Required Forms

  • Disability rating with VA (minimum 20%, or 10% with exception)  
  • VA Application
    • Applications are approved at your local VR&E office. For appointments through the VR&E office in Salt Lake City, call 801-326-2431.
  • UVU Veteran Class Schedule Form  
  • VR&E authorization, sent electronically by case manager to UVU. Students, please ask for and e-mail your authorization number to   to expedite processing.
  • Official Military Transcript (JST or CCAF)
  • Utah Residency (see UVU Residency Application) 
  • Certificate of Eligibility (mailed or e-mailed to you by VR&E)

Eligible students receive

In-state tuition and fees for required courses, monthly housing allowance, books (actual cost), and parking permit, supplies, and equipment on a case-by-case basis.

Payment method

In-state tuition and fees are paid directly to UVU. Monthly housing allowance is paid to the student via direct deposit or mailed check. Books, parking permit, supplies, and equipment costs are paid to UVU or its contracted suppliers.

Yes.

 Pell Grant, other grants, and non-tuition scholarships only.

Purple Heart Tuition Waiver

Eligibility: Purple Heart Recipients
Who Are Utah Residents 

Required Forms

Eligible students receive

Up to 18 credits of undergraduate in-state tuition per semester, and/or a lifetime maximum of $10,000 graduate tuition. Fees are NOT covered.  

Payment method

 The tuition waiver is directly applied to the student financial account.

Veterans Tuition Gap Program

Eligibility: Veterans and Service Members
in Final Year of First Bachelor’s Degree

Required Forms

Eligible students receive

Up to the undergraduate in-state tuition for no more than three semesters. Potentially provides additional money for fees and books, depending on availability of funds and UVU Financial Aid Office policies. 

Payment method

The money is directly applied to the student financial account.

Prevents course drops and late payment fees? 

Please contact the UVU Financial Aid Office for details and submit the application at least 30 days prior to the semester tuition deadline. Refer to the Student Dates and Deadlines page. 

Tuition Payment Plan or Financial Aid recommended?

This depends on the timing of your application and the amount of the financial award. Please contact the Veteran Success Center and/or the Financial Aid Office for assistance.

Spouse/Dependents

Chapter 33 Post 9/11 GI Bill® ToE Transfer

Eligibility: Dependent/Spouse
with Transferred Benefit

MyCAA Career Advancement Scholarship

Eligibility: Military Spouses
Pursuing Associates,
Certificates, and Licenses

What is the MyCAA Scholarship?

The My Career Advancement Account (MyCAA) Scholarship pays tuition costs for education and training courses and examinations leading to an associate degree (excluding associate degrees in general studies, liberal arts and interdisciplinary studies that do not have a concentration). The scholarship also covers the costs for obtaining a license, certificate or certification at an accredited college, university or technical school in the United States or approved testing organization that expands employment or portable career opportunities for military spouses.

Who is Eligible?

Spouses of service members on active duty in pay grades E-1 to E-6, W-1 to W-2 and O-1 to O-3 who have successfully completed high school and have the ability to request tuition assistance while their military sponsor is on Title 10 military orders are eligible. Spouses married to members of the National Guard and reserves in these same pay grades are eligible.

How to Apply?

  • E-mail  and let the Veteran Success Center know which associate degree, certificate, or license you are interested in pursuing at UVU. Only certain programs qualify, and the school may need to request approval for your chosen program.
  • Apply at MyCAA — Financial Assistance for Military Spouses.
  • Once you hear back on your application, follow up with the Veteran Success Center.

Eligible students receive

 Up to $4,000 in tuition/fee funding, a free laptop that the student can keep after training, course materials, national exam fees, and career development assistance are all included. Train anytime, anywhere. Online, On-Demand training so you can study at your time and pace on any device - total flexibility. 

Payment method

Scholarship is paid directly to UVU.

Prevents course drops and late payment fees?

Yes, with proof of approval/eligibility and remaining funds.

Tuition Payment Plan or Financial Aid recommended?

 A UVU Payment Plan or Pell Grant is recommended until proof of MyCAA approval/eligibility can be provided.

Scott B. Lundell Tuition Waiver

Eligibility: Dependent of Deceased
Utah Service Member

Required Forms:;

  • A copy of a DD-1300 (Report of Casualty) or DD-214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty). This documentation is only required once. To obtain a copy of these records, you will need to contact the National Archives.;
  • Scott B. Lundell Tuition Waiver Request Form. Required every semester.;

Eligible students receive

Up to the in-state undergraduate tuition (fees NOT included).

Payment method

In-state undergraduate tuition is paid directly to UVU.

Prevents course drops and late payment fees? 

Yes. 

Tuition Payment Plan or Financial Aid recommended?

Pell Grant, others grants, and non-tuition scholarships only.

Other Information

Please submit the required items no later than 12:00pm (noon) on the day of the tuition deadline. This will allow the Veteran Success Center to add "flags" to your semester account to secure it and prevent courses from dropping. Refer to the Student Dates and Deadlines page.

Service Members (Active / Guard / Reserve)

Chapter 1606 Montgomery GI Bill® for S.R

Eligibility: National Guard or Reserves

Required Forms

Direct deposit or mailed check to the student.

No.

Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA)

Eligibility: National Guard, Reserves, Active Duty

How to Apply

  • Have your CAC ready before you begin.
  • Create an account at https://www.armyignited.army.mil/student/.
  • Request an Education Path (UVU degree and major). Wait for your branch Education Services Office to approve it.
  • Sign back into Army Ignited, select your registered courses from the list, and sign/submit your Tuition Assistance Request (TAR). 
  • Contact your branch Education Services Office to make sure your Tuition Assistance Request (TAR) was received, signed by them, and approved. Obtain a fully signed copy of the TAR from them. 
  • E-mail the completed TAR to UVU Accounts Receivable at .
  • Wait for the Army to send payment to your UVU student account. Contact  or  at any point to find out the status of your FTA payment.

Contact your Education Service Officer (ESO) if additional assistance is needed.

Eligible students receive

Up to the in-state tuition (fees are NOT covered), subject to an annual cap. FTA is typically capped at a maximum of $250 per credit hour and $4000 annually. Specifics may vary depending on the branch and specific student. If you would like to use FTA concurrently with the Montgomery GI Bill® for Selected Reserve (Chapter 1606), you must attend at least half-time. FTA may be requested as early as 60 days prior to the class start date, and must be both requested and approved at least 10 days prior to the class start date (Military deadline). 

Payment method

The approved amount of in-state tuition is directly applied to the student financial account.

Yes.

Other Information

Your Tuition Assistance Request (TAR) must be submitted, approved, and received by UVU prior to the tuition deadline for the semester in order to prevent your classes from dropping (UVU deadline). Refer to the Student Dates and Deadlines page.

State Tuition Assistance/Waiver (STA/STW)

Eligibility: Utah National Guard Service Members

Required Forms

The Veteran Success Center does NOT process applications for State Tuition Assistance (STA) or State Tuition Waiver (STW). Members of the Utah National Guard can visit the Utah Army National Guard Education Services Office web site to obtain the application form and instructions.

  • Submit a copy of your STA/STW approval letter to the UVU Accounts Receivable Office by e-mailing it to  before the tuition deadline. This will allow them to add flags to your UVU semester account to secure it, and to process the funding. Refer to the Student Dates and Deadlines page.
  • Once the semester is over and you have received all of your course grades, you may e-mail your STA/STW application to in order for the Veteran Success Center to fill out the grades portion. We will return the document to the student so that they can turn it in directly.

Eligible students receive

Up to the in-state tuition and/or fees, subject to an annual cap.

Payment method

 The approved amount of in-state tuition/fees is paid directly to UVU.

Prevents course drops and late payment fees? 

Yes. You must submit all documentation prior to the tuition deadline.

Educational and Career Counseling (VA Chapter 36)

Eligibility: Veterans and Dependents

Personalized Career Planning and Guidance (PCPG), or VA Chapter 36, offers free educational and career guidance, planning, and resources to Veterans and their dependents who are eligible for a VA education benefit. Find out how to apply for this program if you’re leaving active service soon or have been discharged within the past year. 

Am I eligible for educational and career counseling? 

You may be eligible for these services if one of these is true for you. 

  • You’ll be discharged under conditions other than dishonorable from active duty within 6 months, or 
  • You separated from active duty under conditions other than dishonorable not more than 1 year ago, or 
  • You qualify as a Veteran or service member for educational assistance under a VA educational program, or 
  • You’re a service member, Veteran, or dependent currently eligible for VA education benefits.
