What to Expect

  • Complete online orientation and Jumpstart
  • Meet with your first-year academic advisor
  • Make sure this is the major for you - Take Introduction to Education: EDEL 1010
  • Begin your Math and English sequence - Take MATH 2000 and ENGL 1010
Online Orientation
Meet with Advisor

Semester One:

  • Meet with your Special Education academic advisor
  • Check ACT scores: Composite 21, English 20, Math 19. Retake over the summer in Testing Center if needed. Take the ACT residual exam
  • GPA must be 3.0 or higher
  • All content area courses must be passed with C or higher and Math 2010 and 2020

Semester Two:

  • Apply to the Special  Education program (Deadlines March 1st). Fall acceptance only
  • Complete prerequisites to start program in the fall
  • All education courses need to be passed with B- or higher
  • Attend Orientation for Special Education new program students in April and set up edTPA folder

  • Register for courses (schedule will be provided by your advisor)
  • Work on edTPA assignments (check online folder)
  • Field experience
  • Education coursework must be passed with B- or higher

Semester Two:

  • Register for courses (schedule will be provided by your advisor)
  • Work on edTPA assignments as given in your courses
  • Field experience

Semester One:

  • Register for courses (schedule will be provided by your advisor)
  • Work on edTPA assignments (check online folder)
  • Sign up, pay for, and take Praxis test #5354 for Special Education and take before student teaching
  • Submit student teaching applications for spring on or before 3rd Friday in September

Semester Two:

  • Apply for Graduation
  • edTPA submitted
  • Graduate
  • Recommendation for licensure sent to USBE if all requirements are met
